Matt Mueller Empire Magazine A valiant attempt at compressing a novel as complex as Bronte's into under 2 hours, but 'valiant' shouldn't be mistaken for 'failed'. Rated: 2/5 Nov 27, 2019 Full Review Adam Mars-Jones Independent (UK) Ralph Fiennes makes a demonic Heathcliff, his startlingly blue eyes the only concession to a matinee audience. This performance reminds us that early reviewers of the book were not wrong, when they wondered at the morbidity of its romanticism. Nov 15, 2017 Full Review Time Out Staff Time Out A brave stab, but it doesn't always pierce the heart. Jan 26, 2006 Full Review Carla Monfort Espinof A good initiation to Brontë's story, this adaptation of Wuthering Heights is an accessible and enjoyable version for those who love time period romances. Martha A Love it!!! I it a masterpiece very well put together and the chemistry between the actor was awesome!! Rated 5 out of 5 stars 02/11/24 Full Review Mar V Timeless and my favourite adaptation. They managed to capture the mood of the book, I love everyone' s performance. The scenery is exactly how I've pictured Wuthering heights. The fact that it has Sinead O'Connor as a narrator makes it even more special. And the music is my forever favourite. RIP Sinead and R. Sakamoto. 🤍 Rated 5 out of 5 stars 02/08/24 Full Review Kitty _ Not a single adaption has ever truly done it justice - but this is my favorite of the adaptions for two reasons 1) Raiph Fiennes manages to capture the essence of Heathcliff better than any other actor ever has and 2) Ryuichi Sakamoto's soaring score together with the authentic filming locations really do bring the book's atmosphere to life... Rated 5 out of 5 stars 08/11/23 Full Review Annonie M Great performance by Fiennes. It's a very good retelling of a classic. I love the slower paced ability to tell the whole story. Rated 5 out of 5 stars 02/05/23 Full Review Audience Member Wuthering Heights is one of my favorite books. so I wanted to see an adaptation and that didn't disappoint me: it's perfect. I don't know how to express myself to explain how faithful everything is to the book, but at the same time how it manages to live a life of its own. The performances are extraordinary, Binoche and Fiennes don't play Cathy and Heathcliff, IT'S them. It is really worth seeing, the music is beautiful and the setting is the same as you would imagine reading the novel. The wild and tormented moor, boundless as is the love of the two protagonists. Many criticisms have been directed at the duration of the film, considered too short to tell the story in the novel and that therefore the film appears to give little space to the various characters. I don't think so: all the fundamental elements to understand Heathcliff and Cathy have been brought back into the film and reinvented thanks to the skills of the two actors. I want to remind you that no one knows what happens to Heathcliff during the two years he goes missing, not even in the book it is explained. Even Linton's resigned goodness and lack of quickness of mind and passion are well described. The story does not give much space to the issues of the heirs and it is right so because the story is about a generation dead under hatred, despite the present love, while the new generation loves and respects and therefore will have a bright future. Rated 5 out of 5 stars 02/05/23 Full Review Audience Member My absolute favorite version of Wuthering Heights. Wouldn't have it any other way. Ralph Fiennes and Juliette Binoche are perfect together. Their love story was beyond heart wrenching and moving. It left such an impression during my first viewing that I refused to watch any other remakes afterwards. The landscape and overall atmosphere transports you into the world of haunted moorlands and ancient curses. There is something foreboding, tragic and fiercely painful that struck me in ways no other romance ever could or has since. What a memorable impact of a story ! Its a tearjerker with certainty.
