Set in a mid-90's alternate reality, the Whitners are a strange family dealing with the aftermath of the death of their oldest son, Dylan. Mrs. Whitner is off on a thousand-mile trail trek and Mr. Whitner spends most of his time at work or in the bathroom, and twins, Myrcella and Wyrm, are basically being raised by their Uncle Chet. The twins also happen to be the last two in their grade to pass the Level One sexuality requirement: a school-mandated program enforced by electronic collars that detach when the wearer kisses someone. But when Myrcella makes out with the foreign exchange student, it leaves poor Wyrm as the lone kid waiting to pop his collar. And due to the rules of the No Child Left Alone program, he must pop it soon to move on to the next grade. Desperate and running out of time, Wyrm tries everything in his power to get that kiss, move on, and grow up.

Carla Hay Culture Mix Amid the overabundance of comedies about nerdy teenage guys who want to be more sexually experienced, Wyrm is memorable for its unique story and quirky characters. It's for people who are interested in low-budget, independent films about eccentrics. Jan 15, 2023 Full Review Jason Flatt But Why Tho? A Geek Community Wyrm is a lot of things, but above all, it’s a great movie. The blending of comedy and sincerity through a gloriously awkward premise is completely compelling and rather unforgettable. Rated: 9/10 Jan 4, 2023 Full Review Molly Adams In Review Online Wyrm mostly lands on its feet, offering a sincere, surreal take on coming-of-age, even if it stumbles slightly while heading toward the finish line, and marks a solid debut feature from director Winterbauer. Jun 30, 2022 Full Review Peter Canavese Celluloid Dreams A deliberately cringe-y comedy that's also deeply empathetic, heartfelt and sweet--like "Eighth Grade" directed by Wes Anderson--and an indie gem worth seeking out. Rated: 3.5/4 Jun 30, 2022 Full Review Erik Childress Movie Madness Podcast A wonderful, really funny film about the intersection of puberty and grief; two moments in life no one has a roadmap through when first encountering them. It is original, sweet and worth every effort to discover. Rated: 3.5/4 Jun 16, 2022 Full Review Tara McNamara Common Sense Media Horny and mournful are an ambitious combination for a 97-minute comedy, and Christopher Winterbauer doesn't quite make it work. Tilly D This movie looked MUCH more interesting than it actually is. #1 I watched this movie because it supposedly had jenna Ortega but through out the entire 95 minutes she spoke maybe twice and that's being generous. There were several actors I thought where there simply to say they where and actually added NOTHING to the movie. #2 however is I felt this movie had little to no solid plot point and we never really learned about the nuances of this universe. It felt extremely boring and confusing. Would not recommend. Rated 0.5 out of 5 stars 07/22/24 Full Review Brian R Delightfully odd in its almost “Napoleon Dynamite”-esque alternate universe. Loved the tech - 🤣! Rated 4 out of 5 stars 05/24/24 Full Review Kurt O Confusing movie. Did not do very well with explaining the nuances of this universe besides broadly going over the reason for the collars that kids must wear. It is a slow movie and there was many parts of this production that could have been cut so they could of added more backstory of the society and characters to further assist the viewer in understanding the norms of this universe. The main character's (Wyrm) part was played very well. Made me feel bad for the kid and I wanted to help him...very believable. Overall this movie was okay, The story line needed much help which was the reason for the so-so reviews. It did make us chuckle from time to time but not often. Rated 2.5 out of 5 stars 10/28/23 Full Review Damon N This movie is SO BORING! Only watch if you love being thoroughly bored! The premise seems interesting but the execution makes it come off as stupid, pointless and creepy. No amount of 80s nostalgia can save this movie from being unwatchable garbage. Rated 0.5 out of 5 stars 06/27/23 Full Review Kristen W Same vibes as Kabluey. If you like this, try that one out. Bizarre indie oddness. lol Rated 5 out of 5 stars 11/03/22 Full Review Audience Member Really good! Tommy Dewey was hilarious. Rated 5 out of 5 stars 02/15/23 Full Review Read all reviews
