Audience Member First science fiction anthology with real SPFX prosthetic FX. If you love 70's and 80's movies, you're gonna love this film. Rated 5 out of 5 stars 02/18/23 Full Review Audience Member The new Xenophobia (2019) movie is a series of episodes: each told by a different member of an alien abductee support group. Spoiler alert: none of the aliens in this movie are the least bit likable, giving good reason for each character's xenophobic reaction to them. The aliens in Xenophobia were startlingly realistic compared with the schlocky fake ones from 50s television. We are forced to compare the two, when a babysitter (Rachel Sterling) is watching old alien re-runs while fighting off an actual close encounter in her living room. In another absurd twist in a different episode (written by Thomas Churchill) a group of "me too" empowered women (led by Karlee Perez) accidentally prevent the only qualified man (government alien fighter) from saving their lives. When I watch a film, I either believe a story or I don't: is the script, direction, and acting compelling enough to buy what they're selling? Ironically the one actor in Xenophobia (Mark Hoadley) that was the most believable in his insistence that aliens exist – is the one character in this film that no other character will ever believe: right up to their gruesome death-by-alien. Xenophobia continues to ponder the age-old question of whether alien life exists on Earth, while simultaneously shouting the resounding answer: "Hell yeah!"
