Based on the Thomas Flanagan novel, this tale of patriotic rebellion begins in 1798 in Ireland. The English have long held power over the Irish people, but after witnessing the colonies' revolt, the Irish have begun to crave freedom too. From this desire a scrappy crew of rebels form, calling themselves the United Irishmen. Joining forces with some French revolutionaries, unlikely allies who had recently invaded, they rise up against the British forces led by Lord Cornwallis (Donald Bissett).
