Kathleen Maher Austin Chronicle Rated: 2/5 Jan 1, 2000 Full Review Roger Ebert Chicago Sun-Times Frankenheimer's palette is perfectly suited to this material. The grays and browns of his autumn Rome, and the wet skies above it, cast a kind of weary le Carreian gloom over the landscape. Mark S Had me gripped, watched a few times now. Yes it has flaws, but it's still a worthy film to watch. Rated 4 out of 5 stars 01/20/24 Full Review Audience Member It totally sucked, the only good thing about it was looking at Sharon Stone or Valeria Golino! Rated 1 out of 5 stars 01/18/23 Full Review Audience Member A few people die due to a supposedly fictional book draft an American journalist writes at the height of the Red Brigade in Italy where Aldo Moro was kidnapped and killed in 1978. I could have used subtitles for the Italian speaking scenes. Rated 2.5 out of 5 stars 02/13/23 Full Review Audience Member Not bad Thriller from Director John Frankenheimer ,the biggest problem being continuity and a story which turns a vital subject just a little bit stale. The film is meant to be set in 1978 around the time when the Red Brigades kidnapped Aldo Moro and waged war against the state ,the problem is the film is packed full of cars from the late 80s and early 90s so you easily forget the period its meant to be set in. The three lead actors all come off a touch bland and only John Pankow gives a powerful performance as a friend with dubious connections. Frankenhiemer does manage some good touches but by the time the action gathers pace you dont really care whats going on. I tried to enjoy it but when a political thriller lacks thrills and mudlles its politics you come away feeling more confused than when you started. Rated 2 out of 5 stars 02/23/23 Full Review Audience Member "It had its ups and downs." No flaws, for acting. John Pankow, was truly exceptional. Andrew McCarthy, looked awkward, throughout and Sharon Stone, you can not take your eyes off of. Rated 2 out of 5 stars 02/23/23 Full Review Audience Member A surprisingly weak performance from McCarthy, a typical one from Stone, poor directing, and even Conti's score doesn't really fit.
