Though she is blind, French princess Yolanta (Natalya Rudnaya) has been sheltered her entire life and has no idea that vision even exists. King René (Fyodor Nikitin) arranges for her to marry Duke Robert of Burgundy (Alexander Belyavsky), and prepares her for their first meeting. But when the Duke meets Yolanta for the first time, he finds her repugnant and flees to avoid the marriage. Then, unbeknown to the King, Yolanta befriends the Duke's kindly riding companion, Vaudémont (Yury Perov).
