      Critics Consensus

You Again represents a rare opportunity to see some of Hollywood's finest female veterans together onscreen - and, unfortunately, wastes their talents almost completely.

Audience Member Sometimes you just have to sit back and relax and enjoy a movie for what it is but I’ll pretty much watch anything with Jamie Lee Curtis and Sigourney Weaver Rated 3 out of 5 stars 04/29/24 Full Review Sierra B As a kid that was bullied relentlessly in HS this movie was irritating. The bully thrived in high school and won in the end without learning any real consequences. She was even still bullying up until the day of her wedding & still won in the end. Horrible. Do not watch Rated 1 out of 5 stars 03/03/24 Full Review Oleg S The film is about the relationship between two girls who studied together at the same school. One was shy, the other was the "queen" of the school who bullied her. And now school is over, the shy "loser" girl has built a successful career in the company, and nothing foreshadows that the most hated person for her at school will now become her brother's fiancee. And now Marnie's old grievances flare up and she begins to find out that Joanna does not sincerely love her brother. The further plot is built on this, and as a result, the girl will put up at the end. The film does not carry any special meaning, just a funny comedy for a one-time viewing. Rated 3.5 out of 5 stars 03/27/23 Full Review fernanda r -Summary High school is no easy thing, well Marni definitely knows that… especially having such "amazing" classmates like Joana or JJ, the mean girl, and her cheerleader squad, who did nothing less than bully her all the way in high school. Everyone wants to leave all that in the past, right? We can see this in "You Again" by Andy Fickman. Years later, Marni became a very successful person in a public relation firm, who had just been offered the position of VP as she was leaving for a vacation to go to her brother's wedding. While she is waiting for the airplane to leave, she calls her mom, Gail, and realizes her brother is marrying a person from her past, Joana, the head cheerleader that made her life miserable. As if having to face Joana again wasn't enough, she has to share a room with her. When she gets home and gets to see her archnemesis, it was like a slow-motion entrance for Joana, looking radiant. Marni gets the surprised that she doesn't remember her at all. Interesting… Later, during the dinner, Joana's aunt. Ramona. shows up and they realize that they went to high school with Gail and were best friends but something happened. The next day, they were headed to the dance-rehearsal meeting and during the car drive, Joana looked at Marni with her signature bully face. This is where Marni realized that she was lying, it was game on. In the dance rehearsal we see Joana's old boyfriend, Tim, the assistant of the wedding coordinator, and Marni meets with her high school crush again, Charlie, her brother's best friend. With all the wedding events coming up, bridal shower, rehearsal dinner, and family time, Marni tries to find the moment to confront Joana, as they prepare for the big day, Marni has less than 48 hours to show the true Joana to her family -Analysis In this movie, we can see that the theme is overcoming challenges and using them to be a better version of yourself. The message in this movie is to be courageous to face many challenges that life puts right in front of us, some more than once, to get past them and be able to live the best present and look for a brighter future. Also, learning to forgive others, especially the ones that made a huge part of our lives harder and need extra help to ask for that forgiveness. The evidence shows how Marni goes through many experiences that made her the woman she is now, a very successful and confident agent in a public relations firm, who made her way through hardship situations and still has more to come now that she met Joana again. I was able to notice that they use the motif of high school, while they repeatedly bring up the rivalry that Marni and Joana, as well as, Ramona and Gail, had during high school. As the movie continues, we see more characters from way back during high school and how they bring flashbacks too. -Critique If I had learned something from the hundreds of times I've seen this movie, it is that we are not the same person we were 5 years ago, and we are capable of doing great things if we set our minds to it, with determination and the support of those who truly matter. Marni not only showed us how difficult life can get, but we can't fully control them, just the way we react to them, because it allows us to think of how we want to react to these kinds of actions if we want to be stuck in them or use them to rise above. Seeing Marni as someone we can all relate to in certain points of life, especially with high school struggles to fit in, not meeting certain ideals, beauty, and popularity standards, to a level we can see that she expresses the trauma it was but also her growth. This is why I give this movie a five-star rating. Rated 5 out of 5 stars 03/30/23 Full Review Hinata S This movie is honestly amazing and hilarious. People may say it's cliche but that's the whole point. The movie is suppose to be funny and it is. And the cast is amazing, Kristen Bell did an amazing job as Marni and really made me feel for her. Odette captured Joanna's character so perfectly and so did the rest of them. I can quote so many things from this movie because of how iconic the lines are , I will never understand the hate this movie gets. In my family this movie is seen as a masterpiece and it always will be. This is such a criminally underrated movie for no reason. There's so many good underrated Disney movies that don't get any love and it's so sad to see 😢😢 Rated 5 out of 5 stars 09/17/22 Full Review Audience Member This was the best movie I've ever seen.
