Soren Andersen Seattle Times A kind of tone poem that slowly but surely casts a spell over the viewer. Rated: 3/4 Nov 17, 2011 Full Review David Fear Time Out Is it reality being captured or drama staged for the camera? Truth or fiction, or both? Rated: 3/5 Oct 18, 2011 Full Review David DeWitt New York Times I can't say I enjoyed it, but I acknowledge that "You All Are Captains" has something to express that can't be said except the way it's said, and that way there be art. Rated: 3/5 Oct 18, 2011 Full Review Derek Smith Tiny Mix Tapes Ultimately, what is a worthy premise is squandered, as the delineation between fact and fiction is never satisfactorily examined. Rated: 1.5/5 Oct 4, 2017 Full Review Michael Atkinson Boston Phoenix One of the most moving of recent films about being a kid and the evanescence of childhood. Rated: 3.5/4 Nov 8, 2011 Full Review Louis Proyect rec.arts.movies.reviews While the two halves of the film don't quite mesh, this is highly recommended for those who are intrigued by post-colonial tropes of the sort explored in "Even the Rain". Audience Member Not a fan. This documentary/mockumentary is a bit of a mixed bag for me. On one hand I see where they were going with the film showing the exploitation of the children by the director, but the last 4o minutes of the film are super confusing with the kids going around doing seemingly random things that don't move the very little story it has. It was very unbearable to sit through this film and mostly because I couldn't identify the voice of this film who's was it? Was it the desperation of the director? The innocence of the children? I am still stuck on that one. Rated 2.5 out of 5 stars 02/04/23 Full Review Read all reviews
