Brad Newsome Sydney Morning Herald Hard to watch, but utterly compelling. Jun 30, 2021 Full Review Clarisse Loughrey Independent (UK) All that's really needed to understand Arquette's motivations are the words of his brother, Richmond: "David wants love"... For all its bravado and mystique, what's most striking about You Cannot Kill David Arquette are these simple truths. Rated: 3/5 Nov 23, 2020 Full Review Peter Bradshaw Guardian I can't help thinking that a real documentary could be made about David Arquette's midlife crisis and this isn't it. Rated: 2/5 Nov 19, 2020 Full Review Geoffrey Macnab iNews.co.uk David Arquette is a disarming character: a relentless enthusiast who leads a pampered lifestyle but endures extreme humiliation in pursuit of his wrestling dream. Rated: 4/5 Jan 16, 2025 Full Review Agustín Acevedo Kanopa La Diaria What is most impressive about You Cannot Kill David Arquette is not the physicality of the matter, but rather the emotional and mental. The directors have the strange ability to make everything that should cause embarrassment become authentic and exciting Rated: 7/10 Oct 30, 2022 Full Review Keith Garlington Keith & the Movies It may be tempting to view the entire movie as nothing more than a vanity project. Certainly there are elements of that which are hard to get around. But reducing it to such a linear reading means missing its biggest strengths. Aug 20, 2022 Full Review Read all reviews

BadNews R You Cannot Kill David Arquette is exactly what you’d expect from a documentary about actor David Arquette—hilarious, chaotic, inspiring, and at times so ridiculous you can’t help but be flabbergasted by the things this man has accomplished. Arquette has always been Hollywood’s lovable goofball, and this film embraces that fully while also showing the grit, heart, and determination behind the wild persona. One of the highlights for me was seeing Courteney Cox pop up. She’s easily in my top five actresses of all time—no debate there. It makes sense for her to appear since she’s Arquette’s ex-wife and the mother of his children, but it also grounded the film with a bit of sincerity and family connection amidst all the absurdity. What stood out most was how the documentary balanced his acting career, his personal struggles, and his unexpected detours. Arquette may have never been considered a traditional “leading man,” but in the 1990s he carved out his space, proving he could carry films and become a recognizable figure in Hollywood. It’s also fascinating to see his side hustles, creative experiments, and the lengths he went to push himself—even if the world wasn’t always taking him seriously. Of course, you can’t talk about David Arquette without talking about wrestling. The entire world lost its mind when he became WCW World Heavyweight Champion—a decision that still divides fans to this day. Sure, in hindsight it’s often called one of the worst decisions in wrestling history, especially when legends like Booker T and Goldberg were still active. But from a publicity standpoint, it was genius. Suddenly, mainstream media couldn’t stop talking about it. Arquette holding that belt put WCW in headlines across the country. They were in the middle of their war with WWF at the time, and this was the kind of stunt that kept them in the spotlight. Whether you loved it or hated it, you remembered it—and that’s the point. The documentary captures all of this with flair. It’s clever, stupid, heartfelt, funny, and completely over the top—just like Arquette himself. At times it feels like a comedy, at times like a tragedy, and at times like an underdog sports movie. And that unpredictability is exactly what makes it so watchable. Documentaries can easily lose steam if they don’t have a strong hook, but this one never does. It keeps you engaged, grounded, and invested all the way through. It’s not just about wrestling or acting—it’s about resilience, reinvention, and not letting anyone else write your story for you. Final Verdict: You Cannot Kill David Arquette is an absurdly entertaining ride that proves its title true. Fun, heartfelt, and surprisingly inspiring, it’s a must-watch for fans of Arquette, wrestling, or just documentaries that refuse to be boring.
