What to Know

Critics Consensus

While Will Ferrell and Reese Witherspoon work well together as catty combatants, tired set pieces and a misjudged romantic subplot make this an invitation you can file under "maybe."

Stephanie Bunbury Financial Times It’s all entertaining enough, but you do wish Stoller could have reined in the slapstick, stabled the alligator and let the talking do the talking. Rated: 3/5 Feb 8, 2025 Full Review Randy Myers San Jose Mercury News Trouble is, “Invited” lacks chemistry between its leads and wastes a weird cameo with Nick Jonas (it falls flat) and the comedic talents of Fortune Feimster, who deserves more screen time. Rated: 2/4 Feb 6, 2025 Full Review Kevin Maher The Times (UK) Stoller takes potshots at everything from Zoomer hypocrisy to metropolitan elitism and Republican racism. The best running gag, however, is reserved for the disturbing Freudian subtext of the Father of the Bride... Rated: 4/5 Feb 5, 2025 Full Review Samantha Schuster Cinéfilo Serial It might not be groundbreaking within the comedy genre, but it does what you'd expect: a good time watching talented actors do funny things. [Full Review in Spanish] Rated: 3/5 Jul 17, 2025 Full Review Maxance Vincent InSession Film Since Ferrell and Witherspoon have an enjoyable sense of play together, it’s not hard to be won over by what the film proposes (pun intended), though not without some reservations. Rated: C+ Jul 11, 2025 Full Review Rachel Ho Exclaim! [Witherspoon and Ferrell's] performances are perfectly cromulent — ones that they can do without much thought or consideration, which very well may be what happened. Lollie 9 The language is ridiculous… like taking a sieve through the pond and getting scum! I can’t even concentrate on the plot because the language is so over the top and they are trying way too hard. I would think that there would be more intelligent comedy writers that could’ve added to this since it is the great of Will Ferrell, Reese Witherspoon, and Leanne Morgan. So sad Leanne had to sign on for this. Would never recommend! Rated 0.5 out of 5 stars 09/25/25 Full Review Audience Member Loved it great laugh and great actors Rated 4 out of 5 stars 09/20/25 Full Review Stephen M. Funny cast. Some light laughs. Reese and Will. Good enough for a Friday night in. Rated 3 out of 5 stars 09/13/25 Full Review G. I I love this movie and rewatch it regularly. Will Ferrell's expressions are hilarious--I rewind scenes just to fully appreciate his antics. Like his mean face while walking backwards away from Reese Witherspoon on the dance floor and the he-likes-you-smile montage! This is a funny and heartwarming movie about the love within families. It's an uplifting comfort watch for me and just a really good, light-hearted and silly film. Rated 5 out of 5 stars 09/11/25 Full Review Sarah R I can only hope Nicholas Stoller never gets another opportunity to make a movie. There have to be consequences for bad decisions and this was just one bad decision after another. Rated 0.5 out of 5 stars 08/17/25 Full Review Bee C I was looking forward to watching this movie because Will F and Reese W were in it, but do I wish I got that time back!! The majority of the cast was forgettable. Also, are there not enough wannabe actresses to smartly choose from for the roles of the bridal party?? Especially the maid of honor? Annoying doesn't begin to describe them. The script/plot... a joke and not in a good way. Don't waste your time with this movie. Rated 0.5 out of 5 stars 08/11/25 Full Review Read all reviews
