What to Know

Critics Consensus

While Will Ferrell and Reese Witherspoon work well together as catty combatants, tired set pieces and a misjudged romantic subplot make this an invitation you can file under "maybe."

Stephanie Bunbury Financial Times It’s all entertaining enough, but you do wish Stoller could have reined in the slapstick, stabled the alligator and let the talking do the talking. Rated: 3/5 Feb 8, 2025 Full Review Randy Myers San Jose Mercury News Trouble is, “Invited” lacks chemistry between its leads and wastes a weird cameo with Nick Jonas (it falls flat) and the comedic talents of Fortune Feimster, who deserves more screen time. Rated: 2/4 Feb 6, 2025 Full Review Kevin Maher Times (UK) Stoller takes potshots at everything from Zoomer hypocrisy to metropolitan elitism and Republican racism. The best running gag, however, is reserved for the disturbing Freudian subtext of the Father of the Bride... Rated: 4/5 Feb 5, 2025 Full Review Dominic Corry Flicks (AU, NZ, UK) There’s nothing revolutionary happening in You’re Cordially Invited, but by feeling like something Dan Ackroyd and Goldie Hawn might’ve starred in in 1987, it brings back a welcome large scale frivolity to the mainstream comedy movie. More please. Apr 3, 2025 Full Review Cynthia Vinney Looper.com There are a lot of funny bits that will have you laughing, even if you're folding laundry or paying attention to a second screen as you let this unspool. Rated: 8/10 Mar 19, 2025 Full Review Jeffrey Peterson Geek Vibes Nation You’re Cordially Invited is a fun film to stream with friends or family. With themes of generational trauma, relationships, and honesty, there’s something there for everyone, even if that something overstays its welcome a little too long. Ethan D There were a few funny moments, but if you’re looking for old school Will Ferrell funny, this movie is not it. Most of the movie is cheesy references to current events and current trends and how a 50 something year old dad navigates them. All in all, just ok. Rated 2 out of 5 stars 04/22/25 Full Review Nikhil K you are cordially invited is a type of movie that you can watch one time and not more than that. It is a very predictable story and have some dialogues that are trying to be perfect, but still there were few jokes or dialogues that I liked very much, though cast was great. I couldn’t enjoy as I thought it was forced . Concept was nice, but movie could have been much better. Rated 2.5 out of 5 stars 04/21/25 Full Review Meredith W When a film goes straight to streaming, it’s an easy assumption that it isn’t going to be great, even it does star Reese Witherspoon and Will Ferrell. The story of their characters’ battle over a double-booked wedding venue (he as father of a one bride and she as sister of the other) seems as if it has been written as a vehicle for Ferrell and the ridiculousness of some of its situations play right into his hyperbolic comic style. This makes the emerging romantic narrative appear as it an add-on rather than an integral part of the film, because as caricatures, these are not characters in which we have any real investment. Rated 1.5 out of 5 stars 04/14/25 Full Review Jose p A very predictable movie with absurd moments and at the same time moments that are so cliché and with situations that make you embarrassment because they're so absurd. Not everything is bad, there are moments that made me laugh, for example the crocodile scene. That's how absurd my sense of humor is. It has the typical happy ending, which is somewhat absurd and funny. It's not great, but it's not bad either. Just take away some of the humor and the teenager's attitude. Rated 3 out of 5 stars 04/06/25 Full Review tm11999 M the big dumb guy mighta been funny way back when sporadically but i don't get it. the spoon girl is like 50 and drinks but somebody gave them jobs......i don't know. Rated 0.5 out of 5 stars 04/06/25 Full Review Laura M This movie is wrongly rated R. I watched with my 12 year daughter and she absolutely loved it. Is just a Sunday afternoon family movie with a little bit too much bad language. If you are up for a light comedy and feel ready for an easy laugh is a good movie. The weirdest the better. This is certainly not an intellectual comedy. Actors are great, soundtrack sticks with you, dialogue are not bad at all and there are a few scene they are certainly worth it.
