What to Know

Critics Consensus

While Will Ferrell and Reese Witherspoon work well together as catty combatants, tired set pieces and a misjudged romantic subplot make this an invitation you can file under "maybe."

Stephanie Bunbury Financial Times It’s all entertaining enough, but you do wish Stoller could have reined in the slapstick, stabled the alligator and let the talking do the talking. Rated: 3/5 Feb 8, 2025 Full Review Randy Myers San Jose Mercury News Trouble is, “Invited” lacks chemistry between its leads and wastes a weird cameo with Nick Jonas (it falls flat) and the comedic talents of Fortune Feimster, who deserves more screen time. Rated: 2/4 Feb 6, 2025 Full Review Kevin Maher The Times (UK) Stoller takes potshots at everything from Zoomer hypocrisy to metropolitan elitism and Republican racism. The best running gag, however, is reserved for the disturbing Freudian subtext of the Father of the Bride... Rated: 4/5 Feb 5, 2025 Full Review Rachel Ho Exclaim! [Witherspoon and Ferrell's] performances are perfectly cromulent — ones that they can do without much thought or consideration, which very well may be what happened. May 14, 2025 Full Review Dominic Corry Flicks (AU, NZ, UK) There’s nothing revolutionary happening in You’re Cordially Invited, but by feeling like something Dan Ackroyd and Goldie Hawn might’ve starred in in 1987, it brings back a welcome large scale frivolity to the mainstream comedy movie. More please. Apr 3, 2025 Full Review Cynthia Vinney Looper.com There are a lot of funny bits that will have you laughing, even if you're folding laundry or paying attention to a second screen as you let this unspool. Khaliel P A rather enjoyable summer comedy, in the vein of Monster-in-Law. It’s fun to watch the two families go head-to-head, even if we wish it had pushed things a lot further. The rating is also lowered because it’s way too long. This kind of comedy should be savored in 90 minutes, not 2 hours. Rated 3 out of 5 stars 07/09/25 Full Review Kyle M The pair’s separative comedic chemistry tolerates with their own appealing signature to garner decent amount of laughs, against reusing a faded page out of a wedding/party planner book for a cheesy formulaic event with demeaning nature to nonsensically ridicule, resulting in an unfunny gathering that unfolds in cringe. (B-) Rated 3 out of 5 stars 07/08/25 Full Review Chris B. Not a funny movie, hardly laughed. For Will Ferrel total disappointment. Rated 2 out of 5 stars 07/07/25 Full Review Makeba R This is a funny movie! Why are so many people so negative about it? It’s silly, has great performances, and the story is pleasant and easy to follow. You want to think you are above this movie, but you aren’t; so just watch it for a good time! Rated 5 out of 5 stars 06/23/25 Full Review Fiona A Wouldn't recommend it, wasted 1.5 hours of my life. Parts were funny but a very bad storyline.
