Audience Member A romance-comedy movie by Antoinette Jadaone of the famed That Thing Called Tadhana, this movie will surely give you a lot of relationship reminisces and familiarity as it is easily appreciated for its light-hearted tones and wonderful story. And since That Thing Called Tadhana has been famous because of quotable love lines, expect You're My Boss to do the same. But the difference is that You're My Boss tackles the issue of career over love life that uses the corporate world extensively to illustrate the theme it wants to deliver. The story may not be an amazing as other romance Filipino movie but it surely not a disastrous or mediocre one. This is also a travel movie as it heavily promotes Batanes as a travel destination to visit where half of the movie was set. Stunning Batanes was prominently used as great backdrop for the movie scenes. Toni Gonzaga and Coco Martin tandem seems forced and less chemistry between the two as lovers but they surely deliver the best performance needed for their act. Their tandem may seem less sugary sweet but their act was superb and very effective when it comes to comedy. You're My Boss used the tried-and-tested romance story formula of how to move on from past love but it appropriately delivers it effectively. And the end of the film, don't be surprised if you find yourself wanting to book the earliest flight to Batanes right away! Rated 3.5 out of 5 stars 02/22/23 Full Review Audience Member We know Star Cinema's formulaic storylines on its rom-com. We've seen a lot of its generic plots and usual happy endings. With its latest effort, the film outfit taps on one of the most successful independent film directors to bring fresh flavor to the plate. Antoinette Jadaone, (That Thing Called Tadhana / English Only Please / Relaks, It's Just Pag-Ibig) at her best, gives another witty yet hard hitting lines through "YOU'RE MY BOSS". Toni Gonzaga and Coco Martin fits the bill well by playing the boss-assistant roles respectively. The comedic charm of Gonzaga and Martin is undeniably commendable. They could generate genuine laughs with their effortless performances. The duo has excelled on capturing the magic of an unlikely pair that works really fine toward the end, despite the silly premise and conflict of the film. Jadaone is undeniably a great storyteller as she plays with rom-com to a little effort. Everyone would agree that it's her strongest suit. However, it appears to be another version of her previous techniques. We've seen characters belting out a love song; the two leads talking and reflecting on their miseries; the picturesque scenery of a tourist spot serving as the film's backdrop. She may be creating her own brand as we can expect the same style to be highlighted on her next films. Since it's a mainstream flick, it becomes the latest victim of product placements. I got really queasy when I saw Skyjet Airlines, Neozep and Argentina Corned Beef on the scenes. Some edited shots and camera angles turn out to be rushed. I won't blame Jadaone and the team as they are pressured with Star Cinema's timetable. If only it was given ample time, then it would be a lot better. Hawaiian Shirts. Golf. Batanes. 3/5 folks. I bet Batanes' tourism would pretty soon be the talk of the town! Rated 3 out of 5 stars 01/12/23 Full Review Audience Member poor scriptwriting and directing. I will rate 2 Star. 1 for Coco and 1 for Toni. Sayang ang tamabalan napunta sa pangit na Script at Director. Rated 2 out of 5 stars 02/09/23 Full Review Read all reviews
