A mix of human drama and mystery (with a dash of Rashomon story telling), Sway is a somber breath of fresh air in modern Japanese cinema. It slowly and subtly explores the darker side of the human psyche as the relationship of two brothers sways in and out of that dark place.

A compelling film about brotherhood. Nice camerawork with the talented Odagiri involved. What is the deal between brothers? This film sheds some light.

It has a great description of the characteristic of the family members. It can convince you what reason that leads to the development of different characters of the two brothers. You can feel the strong bond between them. However, you can also feel the hopeless, heavy feeling stored inside the older brother's heart. He had no choice under wearing his elder brother role in traditional Japanese social value. You can, not only interested in finding the truth, but also the emotional change between the brothers. By the way, the theme song is beautifully written.

Yureru is not the type of movies that I would typically watch but I picked it because it stars Kagawa Teruyuki. I actually find the movie more 'enjoyable' after watching it because it makes you ponder what the two brother were thinking when Minoru became a murder suspect and why Takeru changed his mind when it was his turn to stand as a witness. While the end of the movie is open for imagination as to where Minoru will head after being released from the prison, I tend to hope for the best that he decided to follow Takeru home.

An emotional examination of two brothers after their mothers death. Once a love rival comes between them things go from bad to worse. It's a slow paced and thoughtful film that really gets to the core of its characters. Unfortunately it also goes a bit too deep with some motivations spelled out with metaphors in dialogue that just repeat the visual motifs. At some points it also goes from slow paced to stalling, becoming a bit of an effort to get through as opposed to a introspective treat. Some excellent performances and subtle camera work keep interest for the most part.
