Christopher B Zatoichi and the Fugitives is a darker and more gritty film and we see Ichi taking much more damage than normally and is run down substantially before he stands up for himself. This film has a strong supporting role played by Takashi Shimura who was an Akira Kurosawa regular and this offers some great interaction on the two's part and makes it a more serious film overall. As usual with the world seemingly against him and his humble ways, Ichi must rise up and overcome to restore balance, and once again he delivers! Rated 4 out of 5 stars 11/07/22 Full Review Audience Member Zatoichi and the Fugitives is the best entry yet in the series. Starting with a very solemn ballad, Zatoichi is eating some food when two thugs mess with him. The fugitive pack now has a grudge against Ichi, and force a corrupt lawman to hide them from his superior. When Ichi works with a kind hearted doctor, the paths of the villains and Zatoichi cross when the mill that people work for won't let them leave. Zatoichi gets shot about an hour into the film, and the badguys are still after him in his weakened state. Combine this sense of drama with hard cutting sword fights, and you have one of the best action movies because it ups the stakes and tension. If none of the future installments can top this one, it will be my favourite for sure. Rated 4.5 out of 5 stars 02/05/23 Full Review Audience Member This firecracker sizzles from start to finish, and it's a great treat for samurai film fans like me to see Takashi Shimura as an additional asset. It's beautifully filmed and action packed--who could ask for anything more? =) Rated 4.5 out of 5 stars 02/24/23 Full Review Audience Member Several faces will be recognized by Japanese cinema buffs, giving great interpretations of their characters. The ending, even if you see it coming, is heart-wrenching. The life of a yakuza is rough. Rated 4 out of 5 stars 01/25/23 Full Review Audience Member Katsu Shintaro paired with Shimura Takashi, leads to good film--Zatoichi goes spaghetti Western;Amped up violence!! Rated 3.5 out of 5 stars 02/22/23 Full Review Audience Member Dix huitième film de la saga Zatoichi.
