Zero is too weightless to be truly profound, but its depiction of an African country buckling under the combined weight of internal divisions and foreign intervention still resonates; Herbulot is one to watch as he keeps hurtling forward. Go to Full Review

Set in Senegal’s capital Dakar, this action thriller is so strikingly shot, so propulsively edited and so confident in its tonal shifts that by the end viewers are likely to feel enervated and stunned, but in a good way. Go to Full Review

This is an admirable effort, an action thriller that somehow feels both familiar and fresh at the same time. Go to Full Review

Zero is enthralling when it’s not too familiar, and is enjoyable for anyone seeking an intense story that rejects subtlety to make its points abundantly clear. Go to Full Review

It’s unfortunate, then, that lightning hasn’t struck twice, as Herbulot’s new film, Zero, is as leaden as [his previous film] was sleek. Go to Full Review

Zero is the title of this incoherent action film, but the word 'zero' could also describe the entertainment value of this dreadful dud. This 'race against time' movie (about two men with bombs strapped to their chests) has idiotic scenes and bad acting. Go to Full Review

TheMovieSearch R @TheMovieSearch Dec 10 Zero is a frustrating film that shows brief flashes of potential but never commits to becoming anything meaningful. While it was created in 2024 and released in 2025, it feels oddly unfinished, as if the story was never fully developed before the cameras started rolling. The film makes the mistake of pausing to introduce characters in an unnatural way, dropping names instead of allowing the screenplay to organically build them through action and dialogue. That kind of storytelling breaks immersion and feels more suited to short-form content than a full-length feature. The use of a recognizable celebrity also feels misplaced and highlights the weakness of the writing rather than strengthening it. From the very beginning, the film starts off on the wrong foot, creating an immediate disconnect that never recovers. There are no standout moments, no emotional hooks, and no real tension that keeps you engaged. By the end, Zero feels empty, underdeveloped, and largely forgettable. See more Gabriel H Jul 23 Messy but Fun. Willem Defoe definitely adds some gravitas to this overwrought thriller. See more Apr 20 This movie makes no sense. There like 5 different plot lines. It doesn’t get worse than being able to see the screenplay. Quirky innocent protagonist has a bad thing happen, freaks out, there’s a strange voice to add foreshadowing. Almost gets into trouble, realizes he has to accept. Then meets a dumb sidekick that can fight. They get high and beat some people up, run out like they are getting caught, next there’s a scene with a car that lasts for a month long. A good movie if you are bored but I probably won’t watch it again. See more Andrea I Apr 18 Zero is the kind of thriller that keeps you guessing. It’s intense, fast-paced, and honestly pretty dark, with some sharp political commentary. Willem Dafoe’s voice-over was just perfect—he added an extra layer of intrigue. Some scenes were so suspenseful I found myself holding my breath. Definitely worth a watch. See more Read all reviews
