What to Know

Critics Consensus

56 Days almost overstays its welcome with this snoozy mystery, but its central conceit is saved by two utterly beguiling performances.

It’s a tricky gambit and it mostly fails: by revealing so much of the plot and quickly revealing duplicitous twists, 56 Days lays bare the infrastructure that should be hidden away. Go to Full Review
Angie Han The Hollywood Reporter Feb 19
56 Days suggests halfheartedly that the very wrongness of this courtship is what makes it so hot for them, and for us. But its insistence on playing coy about exactly how wrong it is or why... is to its own detriment. Go to Full Review

56 Days can be a little silly, and it’s definitely heavy on the dramatics, but you can’t peel your eyes away as the mystery deepens. Go to Full Review

56 Days is an enjoyable watch that doesn't go overboard with the eroticism, for once. Go to Full Review

56 Days isn’t good, but it is engaging, with performances that pique curiosity and an electric chemistry between the characters that makes you keep pressing play on the next episode. Go to Full Review

Jenna M @Jennalex 13h How any legitimate critic could rate this series as "fresh" is beyond me. It's barely engaging past the 4th episode when you realize the dead body and story is- at it's uncreative heart- laughably cliche. This story barely has point, not as a mystery nor as a commentary on the human condition. :::Spoilers::: It's a "oh, but he's not really evil" story of two people doing "bad" things and not-so-coincidentally falling for each other. Aside from the poor storytelling of who the characters are- in costume design or dialogue- the utter lack of motivation for the everything the characters do or say aside from the main catalyst driving the story is eye roll inducing. The attempt a backstory for the detectives is dirivative, shallow, somewhat illogical (particularly around how the dead person becomes dead, and the lack of acknowledging the legal theories of justifiable homicide) and ultimately meaningless to the story. None of the characters are people you love nor people you love to hate. See more Megan P. @thesillysleuth 1d One of the best shows I’ve seen in a while. Anytime I thought I knew where it was headed, it ended up leaving me shocked. Awesome psychological thriller watch. 10/10. Acting is great too. See more Harleen T @Bearleen123 2d Watchable, addictive and lots of anticipation, however, the ending didn’t make sense or fit the characters. Ultimately, it was underwhelming but a great binge watch. The police/ detective plot was very boring and confusing at times. The acting from the younger caste in episode 07 was incredible! See more Adelaide W @Afvwhite 4d An intriguing storyline that keeps the tension building with every episode. Brilliant acting and genuinely gripping from start to finish. I was on the edge of my seat the entire time. Excellent. See more Posie B @posiebaek 4d It was very predictable unfortunately and the acting was not the best. See more Prisoner P @PrisonerPotter 6d Overall a good, exciting, addictive show. Some great performances from the younger versions of the main characters in Ep 7, however the finale tails off into a "romantic Wattpad" style completion. Definitely worth a watch despite some iffy acting performances. The book ending makes a lot more sense! See more Read all reviews
