Andrea Thompson Chicago Reader For anyone who has some stamina left for metahuman fare, it’ll likely do something truly remarkable: leave them eager for whatever comes next. Dec 11, 2024 Full Review Ben Travers indieWire Now he’s at it again with Creature Commandos, and while the third time isn’t exactly the charm, its easy-going, character-first approach to another story about incarcerated criminals thrust together to save the world largely works to its advantage. Rated: C+ Dec 6, 2024 Full Review Rafael Motamayor TheWrap ... A fun, endearing start to a new cinematic universe that offers gore, thrills, laughs, and emotions galore. Dec 6, 2024 Full Review Víctor López G. Espinof James Gunn confirms with a splash of adult animation that the DC Universe is in very good hands, offering a new cocktail of violence packed action, over-the-top comedy, and a huge heart. Dec 27, 2024 Full Review Isaiah Colbert io9.com Not only does the show pack a lot of information, sleek action, and side-splitting comedy into its 22-minute premiere episodes, Creature Commandos also carries on Gunn’s penchant for endearing viewers to previously unknown, imperfect heroes. Dec 23, 2024 Full Review KT Mahe For Your Reference Podcast James Gunn does it again with a new misfit crew to pour our hearts into. While there have been more than a few animated shows for adults in the recent years, not many do it better than Creature Commandos! Rated: 4.5/5 Dec 18, 2024 Full Review Read all reviews

Jan Robert A Most episodes no more than 2 and a few 3. It was really not DCs Creature Commandos but just James Gunn imposing his characters on this as well. It could more or less be Guardians of the Galaxy, Suicide Squad or even Peacemaker. The jokes, language and violence were just the same. Bride, Frankenstein and Nina were lifted from Grant Morrison's SHADE team in Seven Soldiers, Frankenstein, Agent of S.H.A.D.E and Final Crisis. GI Robot is classic obscure DC charater from Star Spangled War Stories, Weird War Tales and up until the Greg Rucka Checkmate series. It was another one sided use of a character and simply used as a gimmick for violence. The same with a love sick Rick Flagg Sr. who is part of driving the plot. Doctor Phosphorus is closer to his comic book version, but in the end comes across as another Alan Tudyk role. Amanda Waller is lifted from the Suicide Squad movies, and again is another voice for James Gunn. Princess Ilana Rostovic was a role for Maria Bakalova with no comic book version, and another typical James Gunn feature. In the intro James Gunn is the only real life person depicted, just as a Stan Lee cameo, and this is James Gunn-verse series and not a DC series. Rated 2 out of 5 stars 01/13/25 Full Review Amir S Hooray for the new DC - James Gunn Welcome and thank you for the cinematic universe, this is truly a funny, witty and excellent series that takes DC characters (who are not so well-known) and gives them cool backstories (for example, like Dr. Phosphorus and the Weasel or Nina), recommended for viewing for all comic book fans, and even for me, who is not a comic book fan - this is a good series that is a shame to miss. Rated 5 out of 5 stars 01/13/25 Full Review We'll Bring The P Creature Commandos kicks off the DCU with a fun but familiar adventure in animation. It is a very adult series, with graphic violence and adult situations abound. The animation looks great while the voice cast shines with no one feeling out of place (even with the over the top accents). The only issues we found came from the very short run (seven, 22-26 minute episodes) that left us really wanting it to be longer. There will also be some that may not be able to get past the fact that it’s basically Suicide Squad 2.0, but the monsters add an interesting twist to the formula and the tragic backstories to these characters helps carry the emotional weight. Overall, Creature Commandos is a fun first entry into the new DCU and although it does follow the Suicide Squad formula pretty closely, it does just enough to set itself apart. We look forward to more in season 2. Brad: 7 Josh: 7 Final: 7 Rated 3.5 out of 5 stars 01/13/25 Full Review Liam C While I'm hesitant to call James Gunn the "saviour" of the DCU, you can't deny his ability to do these types of characters and stories justice. Creature Commandos takes the similar format of odd-ball characters in a story filled with humor and heartfelt moments that worked with Guardians and Peacemaker, but somehow makes it feel fresh, and executed brilliantly. The Bride is a fantastic take on the brusque exterior with hidden emotional depth, Phosphorous and Nina have truly compelling personal stories, and somehow, somehow, Weasel is transformed from an offputting oddity into a deeply tragic and loveable character. Supporting characters and overall writing and voice acting is absolutely A tier as well. At a time when the Marvel Universe burnout is real, this series left me itching for the next episode and I can't wait for a season 2. Rated 4 out of 5 stars 01/13/25 Full Review Travis M I enjoyed it, I was not familiar with the commandos but they were likable. The use of Rupert Thorn and Clayface was good. Frank grew on me. Bride better come to live action. Rated 5 out of 5 stars 01/13/25 Full Review Read all reviews
