What to Know

Critics Consensus

Original Sin cares less about injecting fresh blood than reviving a tried-and-true formula, making for a prequel that's just solid enough to scratch the Dexter itch with a scalpel.

Louis Peitzman New York Magazine/Vulture The resolutions themselves, however, are mostly clunky, reflecting the overall clumsiness of the season. Rated: 2/5 Jan 25, 2025 Full Review Lauren Sarner New York Post “Dexter: Original Sin” isn’t unwatchable. It’s filled with entertaining performances, but the story feels like it’s beating a dead horse, rather than offering up an exciting prequel that has a compelling reason to exist. Jan 3, 2025 Full Review Craig Mathieson The Age (Australia) Turns out there’s still blood -- just a few drops -- to be squeezed from everyone’s favourite vigilante serial killer. KerryWhite's S 8/10. 83/100. | Let me just say this; Patrick Gibson has Dexter down 100%. Like he just is Dexter Morgan. It’s insane how good his performance is and how similar he is to Michael C. Hall’s portrayal of Dexter is. Also, who else rewinded the restaurant scene to see if that was Brain? lol bc I did, and sure enough, you find out later that it was lol Rated 4 out of 5 stars 06/20/25 Full Review Susan E I was worried about the "new" Dexter keeping up with the old Dexter. I have been a fan of Dexter since day one. I think the show does and amazing job showing the younger selves. Patrick Gibson is the right fit for a younger Dexter and it was great to watch him learning "his trade". The supporting cast is wonderful from Molly Brown as the ever pain the A** Debra, Christian Slater does a fine job as the father, Love Reno Wilson in everything he does from Mike and Molly to Good Girls. A few great performances were: James Martinez as Batista Alex Shimizu as Masuka Both were uncanny clones of the original characters. Brittany Allen was perfect as the mother. The show really helped show the beginning of Dexter with some scenes especially gritty. I am so glad we are getting a season 2. Rated 5 out of 5 stars 06/08/25 Full Review Angel E Let me start by saying I'm a BIG BIG FAN of the original show from the initial run all the way to what we all thought was the final episode when we see Harrison kill Dexter. But like a TRUE fan I always felt we would get more in this story and when I heard this idea I was instantly curious and knew it could work if done right. First the cast had to be spot on! Second the story had to make sense since this is a prequel show... Meaning the timelines had to match to perfection, and since this is NOT a reboot but an actual prequel the characters in this had to match exactly to what a younger version of said person would be like. Not just Dexter but EVER ONE! So how did this play out? AMAZING! This is by far the best prequel show series I've seen in a very long time. Every single person is simply spot on! The cast in it's entire group is ideal for the roles, and Estrada the guy who kills Dexters BIO MOM is played by Carlo Mendez and he crushed this part! The actor who plays Dexter Patrick Gibson is so spot on my god I couldn't tell this wasn't the same guy! Don't get me wrong Michael C. Hall is "DEXTER" but this Patrick Gibson perfectly steps in his shoes and plays the holy ghost out of the part. Amazing actor... All in all I have to say everyone crushed this show and I can't wait for the next season and hope we get a nice run here that leads up to the OG show. Also we have the new series coming up "Dexter: Resurrection" and hope that gets several seasons... I can't get enough of these "Dexter" shows and as long as the stories line up, the scripts are this incredible, casting is this spot on. These shows are MUST WATCH! Rated 5 out of 5 stars 06/02/25 Full Review 5n8k3_shd0w J Thought I would be bored or offended by the cast, writing, or something. Unlike the other attempt to reconcile from the bad ending of the original. New Blood, I hated Harrison in everyway. O.S. is great and fun to watch. Nothing about the retelling lagged and the cast was excellent I found myself wanted more and not missing the original. Best peace offering ever! Rated 5 out of 5 stars 05/26/25 Full Review Wendel L Direção: Ok Atuação: Bom Roteiro: Ok Caracterização: Bom Soundtrack: Bom Rated 4 out of 5 stars 05/18/25 Full Review A S I love it. I couldn't really get into the orginal series. Im not sure why. However I just finished New Blood and I binged it for about a week and lived it. I love this cast got some heavy hitters Christian Slater, patrick Demsey and Gellar. I like the volleyball aspect aswel. Can't go wrong there. Guy who plays dex does a good job. Casting was spot on same in new Blood. Really liked the detective and the girl friend in that. Im really excited about Resurrection and was pissed @ the end of New Blood because I thought it would have made a good series. I also like that not being a fan boy I still can get into these and like them. I'll go back and watch dexter og im sure. Rated 5 out of 5 stars 05/08/25 Full Review Read all reviews
