J. Kelly Nestruck Globe and Mail The suspenseful script penned by British writer Matt Charman (Bridge of Spies) has plot holes as wide and deep as the English Channel. Aug 29, 2025 Full Review Megan Kenyon New Statesman At times, it feels formulaic and contrived, some of its twists and turns predictable. Nevertheless, it is a highly entertaining thriller with neat ties to today’s political moment. Aug 29, 2025 Full Review Helen Coffey Independent (UK) It is, if nothing else, enjoyable to watch our chic leads strutting around the halls of power in their beautifully tailored coats and trouser suits, looking every inch the heads of state as they exchange frosty smiles and handshakes for the camera. Rated: 3/5 Aug 22, 2025 Full Review Morgan Cormack Radio Times Hostage is surely a good time – it's a series that is entertaining, has some fine performances, is slightly surprising in parts and fits the binge-watch model perfectly. Rated: 3/5 Aug 30, 2025 Full Review Susan Granger SSG Syndicate Matt Charman's fast-paced, intense political thriller reflects how the female Heads of State - British Prime Minister & French President - are constantly maligned and undermined because of inherent misogyny and what's perceived as their vulnerability. Rated: 8/10 Aug 29, 2025 Full Review Ezequiel Boetti Otroscines.com The commentary mixture on current events, political thriller and family melodrama doesn't always work, but Charman proves to be a skilled narrator, holding attention with sharp and precise dialogue...[Full review in Spanish] Rated: 3/5 Aug 28, 2025 Full Review Read all reviews

robert K The first couple of episodes were okay but the remainder of them sank into the murky depths of impalusability. Rated 1.5 out of 5 stars 09/09/25 Full Review Carl O. Terrible writing. Terrible implausible plot Predictable Awful acting Would have given it up if it were more than 5 episodes. Thank goodness it is over. Rated 1 out of 5 stars 09/09/25 Full Review Muddyboy C Oh dear. From the moment an unescorted husband of a British prime minister arrives to treat families in a French colony offering himself up an easy political bargaining chip to a troop carrying Apache helicopter and then the French P.M. recording her liason with her stepson this became an unrealistic farce. I managed two episodes and will never get that time back. If your expecting a slow horses experience you'll be deeply disappointed. Rated 1.5 out of 5 stars 09/09/25 Full Review John D Entertaining enough but be prepared to put up with glaring movie logic which serves to escalate tension and up the stakes at every turn, while largely abandoning realism. The leads are engaging , which helps, and it moves at a fair old pace. Bingeable hokum . Watch it fast so that you dont have time to notice how daft it is. Rated 3.5 out of 5 stars 09/09/25 Full Review DMZ c Very, very silly... from within the first five minutes there are questions that can't be answered. e.g why on earth would the partner of a leader of western country be so unprotected ? It's just dumb and I don't think I can be bothered to watch the rest of it. Rated 1 out of 5 stars 09/08/25 Full Review Marc H Managed to get to episode 3 to realise it wasn’t getting any better and decided to start a book instead Rated 0.5 out of 5 stars 09/08/25 Full Review Read all reviews
