What to Know

Critics Consensus

Landman plumbs much of the same territory as other Taylor Sheridan-penned series, but having Billy Bob Thornton on hand turns this Texas crude into highly watchable fuel.

Johanna Schneller Globe and Mail Landman, whoa -- Landman makes Yellowstone look like PBS. Like everything in Texas, it’s both bonkers and compulsively watchable. Jan 21, 2025 Full Review Rebecca Onion Slate Landman would be a lot better if Angela were sometimes likable, if Cooper and Ariana got more time, but mostly if Tommy ever made a mistake, rather than getting proved right, over and over again, about his vision of the world. Jan 15, 2025 Full Review John Powers NPR Like Tommy, "Landman" knows all the things that are wrong about our addiction to oil. But it also hints at the naivete of those who think the world could easily go into rehab. Nov 26, 2024 Full Review Jackie K. Cooper jackiekcooper.com My favorite series of this season. Billy Bob is back! Rated: 8/10 Feb 6, 2025 Full Review Lauren Veneziani WBAL-TV (Baltimore) LANDMAN is a completely gripping series that is wild, hilarious, and I never thought I could learn so much about oil! The best part about this show is seeing Ali Larter shine again in a role she was clearly born to play! Rated: 4.5/5 Jan 28, 2025 Full Review Tilly Pearce iNews.co.uk Landman is about good men trying to do a good job, if not an entirely honest one. It’s a strong start to Sheridan’s post-Yellowstone world – and has the potential to be just as successful. Rated: 4/5 Jan 23, 2025 Full Review Read all reviews

Cork B Wildly entertaining. This is the role Thornton was BORN to play. I REALLY hope this is not actually how oil companies operate because this was over the top dysfunctional. Like the show 'Dallas' dialed to 11 with nudity and swearing. The end of the season was a bit over the top, and there are these weird segues to oil industry statistics. Rated 4.5 out of 5 stars 07/06/25 Full Review Brandon R. It’s a really good show that is worth your time. Rated 5 out of 5 stars 07/05/25 Full Review L.A P First of all, the heroes work for an oil company. Uau, thats great isn't it? No climate change huh? Then, just on the second episode, The main character starts defending the cigarette industry. Cigarettes are not bad for your health. Goddamnit, let’s bring back Ronald Reagan and the bush family shall we? That’s what I call a show fit for the times. Rated 0.5 out of 5 stars 06/29/25 Full Review Chris M The writing is supposed to be funny, I don't think I laughed at all. Billy Bob is a great actor but the writing in this show is so bad, all he has to say are sarcastic one liners the entire show. The plot is non existent, 80% of the time is spent on the dumb daughter/mom cringe fest. The dialog is basically one-liners or F-Bomb filled monologues. The most realistic character in the show is the Hispanic young widow, I though she did a great job and her characters is actually believable. All the other women in the show are ridiculous including the 30 year old lawyer. Rated 0.5 out of 5 stars 06/16/25 Full Review Some Guy F Every character is extremely one note. Every plot point is ridiculously over the top. The political bias is overwhelmingly in your face. This is a bad soap opera for Republicans. Rated 0.5 out of 5 stars 06/15/25 Full Review Audience Member Yellowstone without the training wheels. Rated 4 out of 5 stars 06/13/25 Full Review Read all reviews
