Karl Alberg moves to the idyllic coastal town of Gibsons to become the new police chief and soothe a psyche that has been battered by big-city police work. Unfortunately, the gentle paradise has more than its share of secrets, and Karl needs to call upon all the skills that made him a world-class detective in solving the murders that, even in this seemingly idyllic setting, continue to wash up on his shore. Cassandra, a local librarian, becomes Alberg's muse, foil and romantic interest. The show is based on the Edgar Award-winning, nine-book "Karl Alberg" series by acclaimed novelist L.R. Wright.

Angie Han The Hollywood Reporter If anything, the most notable quality of Murder in a Small Town, created by Ian Weir and based on the novels by L.R. Wright, is the general vibe exemplified by the hamlet’s perpetual drizzle: gray and chilly, but too soft to seem all that harsh. Sep 27, 2024 Full Review Aramide Tinubu Variety Charmingly predictable with a sliver of edge, the show is an all-inclusive crowd-pleaser. Sep 25, 2024 Full Review Devan Suber AV Club If it’s a little obvious in its intentions, it’s just a simple pleasure to be around these actors for an hour or so. And frankly, that’s its own kind of achievement. Rated: B- Sep 18, 2024 Full Review Dustin Rowles Pajiba One might describe it as a cozy murder mystery, but I’d call it meek. It’s a murder show that someone seems determined to make as un-upsetting as possible. It’s practically a hug, albeit one with a dead body (always murdered off-screen) Oct 17, 2024 Full Review Bill Brioux Brioux.tv Murder in a Small Town is light on plot but heavy on atmosphere and character study, more British in its storytelling, which works for me. Oct 3, 2024 Full Review Joel Keller Decider Murder In A Small Town is both a murder mystery series and a romance series. Can the two mesh? So far, it has, mainly thanks to the chemistry between Sutherland and Kreuk. Sep 26, 2024 Full Review Read all reviews

Tomato T If you're looking for an interesting murder mystery / solving crime TV series that features a likeable cast, interesting mystery setups, and satisfying resolutions, you might give "Murder In A Small Town" (2024) a try. Set in a small town in the Pacific Northwest, a police chief and his team, along with locals encounter various crimes / murders that happen to the community there. While not as super stylish or complex as, say, the BBC's "Sherlock" (Benedict Cumberbatch), the setups and mysteries are thought-provoking, keeps you guessing, and it's even infused with an engaging romance sub-plot. It was more interesting than some of the other high profile crime / murder-mystery TV series being hyped right now (e.g., Amazon's "Cross"). Overall, "Murder In A Small Town" was engaging and fun. I'd like to see a 2nd Season. Rated 5 out of 5 stars 12/30/24 Full Review Peter K Solid acting, good plot execution; excellent screenplay. Well done! Rated 4 out of 5 stars 11/22/24 Full Review Giancarlo C The show is nothing like the books, who ever wrote the script want at any cost transform a good murder series in a love story between two desperate lonely people, the chemistry is completely forced, Cassandra is energetic and full of life, Karl is a stiff looks like that just got up from bed, talk in slow motion and the acting is very poor. The producers count on Kristin Kreuk good look and on the BC landscape scenery to make this show watchable. I can’t see this show last long unless the writer start following the books more. Thank God the season is finish, I sincerely hope that Fox don’t approve a new season since they exhausted all the book of the series in one season, I can’t see what the new season would focus on other than the sappy and pathetic love story. Rated 2 out of 5 stars 12/13/24 Full Review Jay J Love the books and the cast. Rated 5 out of 5 stars 11/08/24 Full Review Karin Y I have been a fan of Kristin Kreuk since Burden of Proof. I was curious about Rossif Sutherland given all the shows I have watched with Keiffer and I grew up with his Dad. Wow. Just Wow. After watching a SAG interview he is very similar to his Sheriff role where he conveys a lot with few words and subtle facial changes. He is kind, flawed, sexy, perceptive, clearly very bright (he went to Princeton btw) but incredibly humble. Sense of humor and real humanity. I for one am happy to watch the two of them for more seasons. This one is not enough! Their chemistry is quite real and they are delightful in the interview. Rated 5 out of 5 stars 11/08/24 Full Review Marge D This show has a simple small-town storyline, and it is enjoyable. It doesn't have or need the bloody guts and gore that many other TV detective shows depend on to entertain viewers. Rated 4.5 out of 5 stars 11/05/24 Full Review Read all reviews
