What to Know

Critics Consensus

Teeming with heady concepts and themes, Paradise is an overstuffed but addictively ambitious reunion of Sterling K. Brown and creator Dan Fogelman.

Much of “Paradise” is hammy as hell... Marsden and Brown are actors who know how to harness the saccharine, though, burning sugar in order to give the narrative dimension. Go to Full Review

What was most exciting about this first season of Paradise was the momentum it was able to maintain — it had big “limited series” energy, each episode playing like creator Dan Fogelman wasn’t holding anything back for a second season. Go to Full Review

Sterling K. Brown is eminently watchable and a gifted actor who persuasively sells the roiling emotions inside Xavier. Go to Full Review

Although the show is from Dan Fogelman, who created the subtle and complex This Is Us, some dialogue in Paradise is bad enough to set your teeth on edge. Go to Full Review

So far, it's been doing that same thing that This Is Us and ABC's Lost (2004) did by giving us flashbacks of various characters, doing mini-character studies that have been compelling. Go to Full Review

While the whodunnit elements create the series' initial hook, it's the unravelling of both characters, especially Marsden's President Bradford, as complex individuals that holds the attention. Go to Full Review

Michael F Nov 29 Engaging television series that ends you wanting more. Even if it never comes back the 1st season is a worthwhile watch! See more Kyle P Nov 8 awesome show loved the twists now I can see why so many people said this is a must to watch! See more K F Nov 7 I found it an unwatchable hammy melodrama. Not sure if it's the ABC-style midweek night time soap writing/style or if it's bad acting, but most of the characters who have the most screen time are all 2 dimensional and over the top, shallow caricatures: the main, played by Sterling K. Brown--only has intense mode. Julianne Nicholson--only has the over-compensating woman in power trope mode. James Marsden--only has sad goof mode. And Sarah Shahi--is just a bad actress and the character is one of the most annoying on tv. The show spends so much time in flashbacks and characters talking about what they miss, that the setting is absolutely irrelevant. Who wants to listen (not see) a character we have known for 1 pine for a wife we have never even met... while a "real wife of Beverly Hills" actress psychologist analysis him with sarcasm, interruptions and too cute jibes... for an entire episode. A real wasted opportunity. See more Noble N Oct 23 I absolutely loved Paradise 2025! I’ve watched the first season three times already, that’s how good it is. The storytelling, the pacing, and the performances were all top-notch. Sterling K. Brown once again proves why he’s one of the best in the business, he delivers pure greatness every time he’s on screen. I can’t wait to see what more excitement and brilliance the next season brings! See more Matt L @Mattliptak Oct 14 Paradise Season 1 really does stand out as one of the stronger new dramas in recent years. The premise feels original yet emotionally grounded, and Sterling K. Brown delivers one of his most layered performances since This Is Us. His ability to balance moral complexity with genuine vulnerability elevates the entire series. The supporting cast deserves equal praise — their chemistry and restrained tension give the show a believable, lived-in quality. The plot unfolds with a rare balance of intrigue and character study, weaving philosophical and ethical questions into a genuinely thrilling arc. Overall, it’s one of those rare first seasons that manages to be both thought-provoking and entertaining — the kind of show that reminds audiences what prestige television can still accomplish when writing, casting, and direction align perfectly. See more S D Oct 14 Completely unrealistic and boring story. Stopped watching after the first episode. See more Read all reviews
