Brooklyn-based artist Nola Darling struggles to stay true to herself and her dreams while dividing her time between her friends, her job and her lovers -- all three of them. That trio includes married businessman and father Jamie Overstreet, photographer and self-described "biracial Adonis" Greer Childs and chatty Michael Jordan fan Mars Blackmon. Previous Evette Dionne Bitch Media As much progress as She's Gotta Have It has made, there's still something missing - a polyamory and sexual fluidity that's not rooted in selfishness, uncertainty, and narcissism. Mar 4, 2021 Full Review Carmen Phillips Autostraddle Until Spike is able to work out his insecurities about women who do what they want without the input of men, he's not going to be able to successfully craft a well developed woman character. Mar 24, 2020 Full Review Alexandra Pollard Daily Telegraph (UK) The series' blend of humour, drama and social critique would probably curdle in the hands of anyone other than Lee. But Lee manages to make the whole thing magnificent. Newcomer DeWanda Wise is stunning, too. 4/5 Mar 23, 2020 Full Review Kemi Alemoru Dazed and Confused It's going backwards in order to move the conversation forward... This could and should have been good but, ultimately, there are too many holes, too many monologues and too many things for me to get over for me to actually enjoy it. Jan 26, 2022 Full Review Rhodé Marshall City Press (South Africa) ...the Netflix adaptation had a disappointing end to season one. The last episode was an anticlimax that left you with nothing learnt after 10 episodes. Apr 15, 2020 Full Review Proma Khosla Mashable As it sheds the safety blanket of style, She's Gotta Have It breaks through as an extremely compelling character narrative. Previous Audience Member The dialogue and performances feel stilted like its being acted out/read. Not naturally spoken by people in every day conversation. Nola breaking the fourth wall is like I'm being preached to, yet I'm not the one who needs to hear their message. Just tell the story as its happening without stopping to give me an explanation of what I'm already watching play out. It's as if the audience is seen as not intelligent enough to reach any conclusions on our own. Rated 0.5 out of 5 stars 01/09/23 Full Review Audience Member Genial, inteligente e divertido!!! Rated 5 out of 5 stars 01/09/23 Full Review Audience Member Spike Lee has obviously run out of ideas and is pointlessly rehashing the old ones. Lee's tendency to preachily hammer home a message is evident throughout, and its the same messages as always. The dialogue is very unnatural and corny. It's an old man's idea of what young, cool people are like. Rated 0.5 out of 5 stars 01/09/23 Full Review Audience Member The show is too preachy, without reaching any moralising conclusions, which is weird. So many unresolved conflicts, the art is mediocre. Poorly scripted and acted. Rated 1.5 out of 5 stars 01/09/23 Full Review Audience Member DeWanda Wise is AMAZING. She is an extraordinary talent; a great actress, beautiful, facial expressions, her laugh, her body language and she makes it all seamless and natural. She gives Nola Darling justice. Spike Lee has really made something special here. The art and production and direction has created a unique amazing show. Definitely one of the greatest shows out there today! Rated 5 out of 5 stars 01/09/23 Full Review Audience Member I love this show. It's fresh, unpredictable,'s a whole experience.
