Although he has no plans to step aside as the head of Waystar Royco, the international media conglomerate controlled by his family, aging patriarch Logan Roy is contemplating what the future holds. He has lingered in the limelight longer than even he thought he would, and now family members want to run the company as they see fit. Despite a best-laid succession plan, tempers flare over Logan's intentions. Kendall Roy, Logan's eldest son from his second marriage and a division president at the firm, is the heir apparent. As Kendall attempts to solidify his eventual takeover, he and the three other Roy children face a difficult choice as company control and family loyalties collide.

What to Know

Critics Consensus

As compulsively watchable as ever, Succession's final season concludes the saga of the backbiting Roy family on a typically brilliant -- and colorfully profane -- high note.

Richard Ferguson The Australian Let’s hope there’s more shows like Succession to keep us satisfied through to the end of an already stellar year in TV. May 11, 2023 Full Review Camilla Long The Times (UK) One of the great troubles of this show is its repetitive, monomaniacal storyline: it worries again and again about who might replace him rather than why. Apr 3, 2023 Full Review Tanzim Pardiwalla Filmfare The main cast including Brian Cox, Jeremy Strong, Sarah Snook, Kieran Culkin and Alan Ruck returned for a satisfying finale that left fans reeling for months after it was over. Emily C. will always be sad that i was late to the succession hype and that i didn’t get to watch these episodes live, but W O W Rated 5 out of 5 stars 06/19/25 Full Review Roman C Greatest tv show of all time. All. Time! Rated 5 out of 5 stars 06/02/25 Full Review Noah J Look, there are a lot of shows about rich people being awful. Succession just does it better than anyone else. It’s sharp, it’s mean, and it’s somehow still deeply human—even when no one’s acting like an actual human. The Roy family is basically what you’d get if Arrested Development had a baby with King Lear, then sent it to Wharton and gave it a private jet. They’re broken, toxic, hilarious, and every single one of them thinks they’re the smartest person in the room. Spoiler: none of them are. Jeremy Strong plays Kendall like he’s permanently walking a tightrope over a canyon of daddy issues. Kieran Culkin’s Roman is a walking HR violation in a thousand-dollar suit. Shiv is brilliant, calculating, and constantly outplayed. And Tom? Tom Wambsgans is the dark horse MVP of the show—equal parts cringe, power-hungry, and kind of heartbreaking. What makes Succession so addictive isn’t just the insane one-liners or the boardroom drama—it’s that it understands how power actually works. Behind every billion-dollar deal is a needy, insecure kid trying to prove something to someone who’s probably dead inside. The show never loses sight of that. And the ending? Perfect. No neat bows, no forced redemption arcs. Just chaos, like it was always heading there. So yeah. Succession is about the 1%, but it never lets them off easy. It’s a masterclass in writing, acting, and watching people absolutely implode under the weight of their own egos. Highly recommend—just maybe don’t watch it with your dad. Rated 5 out of 5 stars 05/04/25 Full Review P M The story arcs can feel a little halfbaked, but this show knows what it's about and delivers. Rated 3 out of 5 stars 04/19/25 Full Review Paul S I don't know if it was the greatest sendoff for an awesome show, but it was still incredibly enjoyable and the acting performances were superb. I definitely recommend it for drama fans! Rated 4.5 out of 5 stars 04/04/25 Full Review Myles H Succession masquerades as profound commentary on power and family by dressing up soap opera dynamics in expensive suits and literary references. The show invites viewers to feel intellectually superior while watching terrible people be terrible to each other—without offering any genuine insight beyond 'the ultra-wealthy are miserable too.' It's emotional pornography for the NPR crowd: the pleasure of watching privileged people suffer, packaged with enough prestige markers that audiences can pretend they're engaging with something meaningful rather than simply indulging in schadenfreude.
