Ed Power Daily Telegraph (UK) The show’s unique selling point remains its sheer silliness and is great fun, provided that you accept from the outset that Surface is entirely lacking in depth. Rated: 3/5 Feb 25, 2025 Full Review Alex Maidy JoBlo's Movie Network Watching Mbatha--Raw perform is enough reason to check out the new season of Surface, but I feel everyone will feel much more positive about this story after checking out this new chapter. Rated: 7/10 Mar 12, 2025 Full Review Christian Gallichio The Playlist Like everything she’s in, Mbatha-Raw was frankly one of the only reasons why the first season was watchable. Here, she’s a much more dynamic presence... Rated: B- Mar 5, 2025 Full Review Andrew Murray The Upcoming The second season of Surface is a huge departure from what came before. Although its new setting and narrative develop this thriller in interesting ways, its dreary delivery and familiar tropes get in the way of the enjoyment. Rated: 3/5 Feb 25, 2025 Full Review Tara Bennett Tellyvisions If you’re a mystery fiend hoping for Surface to rise to its potential, be ready for some disappointment as it falls short again. Rated: B- Feb 24, 2025 Full Review Archi Sengupta LeisureByte.com Surface Season 2, on Apple TV+, is a lukewarm thriller whose myriad characters get on your nerves. Lauren R I whole series through text messages! Is this for real? How did people make movies before mobile phones? Rated 2 out of 5 stars 08/10/25 Full Review Andy C Convoluted and pretentious. I give up. Rated 1 out of 5 stars 08/04/25 Full Review JB B Some good performances. Suspend disbelief as Sophie/Tess attempt to piece together her memory to find the truth of what had happened to her mother, with James on her tail. Set in a bubble of Establishment wealth where rules don’t apply, characters flip from savvy amateur Jason Bourne types to plain amateur. Sophie / Tess’s inability to answer a straight question and her arrogance lead her to a new reality. For me although clearly an expensive production some episodes are better than others. Maybe had the eight episodes been condensed into four or five with the fallout explored in a more satisfactory way that still allowed for a follow up season the inferred sense of menace and suspense might have worked. The ending is clearly left open to interpretation / 3rd series but Im not sure I care enough Rated 3 out of 5 stars 05/28/25 Full Review Michael G Where season 1 left you wanting to understand the plot, season 2 develops and pulls it all together. Starts a little slow but picks up momentum. Gugu Mbatha-Raw has presence and her acting holds up through it all. Season 2 ends with you wanting to know about the next chapter, how Sophie will get to the other side of her legal problems. Overall, quite entertaining! Rated 4 out of 5 stars 05/14/25 Full Review Pascal S Unfortunately, season two is disappointing. Flat dialogue, unrealistic scenes, and the big plot fizzles out. Rated 2 out of 5 stars 04/17/25 Full Review Darko Z Absolutely soo much deeper and better in its second season...even though it seems like you know all the pieces of the puzzle it keeps on surprising you...great watch.
