Judy Berman TIME Magazine Sweetpea finds a bountiful source of suspense in the question of whether we’re watching the blossoming of a wallflower or the making of a monster. Oct 21, 2024 Full Review Ben Travers IndieWire Here we are, once again, with a new series trying to bridge the gap between identifiable frustrations and sociopathic actions, this time using misplaced tension, so-so humor, and unconvincing empowerment narratives to liven up its rote story. Rated: C- Oct 14, 2024 Full Review Carol Midgley The Times (UK) Ella Purnell puts in a standout performance as the ill-treated, put-upon mouse that roared. And stabbed. And slashed. Rated: 4/5 Oct 14, 2024 Full Review Tilly Pearce Radio Times What follows is a six-episode bloody, bloody mess – and it’s absolutely joyous to watch Rhiannon as her violent, righteous hand takes over. Rated: 4/5 Jan 16, 2025 Full Review Dustin Rowles Pajiba Despite its grim subject matter, the series is delivered in a light, briskly paced package, making it surprisingly digestible for a show centered on a serial killer. Jan 9, 2025 Full Review Andrew Murray The Upcoming Sweetpea’s vicious spin on the coming-of-age formula makes for very enjoyable television. Rated: 4/5 Nov 4, 2024 Full Review Read all reviews

J G Starts off great. You think it's going to be a modern twist on the 'empowerment' trope where the character is a monster, but also you agree with her. Nope. She goes from someone you're rooting for (Ella Purnell is so likable), to a bit of a monster, and then suddenly by the second or third episode she's just unlikable, lacking in humor, no longer getting revenge for being mistreated but just being a generally awful and stereotypical bad person to everyone. The few likable characters are treated like crap by both the story and the characters. I tapped out in the third episode where Purnell's character is still halting and bizarre in her responses to everything, but also evil and boring. So much wasted potential. If they didin't seem to know where they're going, I don't think I need to go along for the ride. Rated 2.5 out of 5 stars 05/31/25 Full Review Gareth v Entertaining enough without breaking any new ground. The strength of this show lies in the performance of Ella Purnell, who is nothing short of excellent. Rated 3.5 out of 5 stars 04/29/25 Full Review Richard D This was complete trash! So it starts out with a sweet likeable woman who doesn't stand up for herself. Her dad's dying wish was for her to be more assertive. Instead of doing that she goes on a killing spree killing 2 men. She wants to kill her bully in high school but then plots with her instead to kill the big, bad white husband. She treats the nice guy like crap, screws the jerk and to top it off kills the nice guy in the end when he finds out she the murderer. On what planet does this make any sense??? Rated 0.5 out of 5 stars 03/29/25 Full Review Ignacio S Ella Purnell and Nothing More. This show left me with a very bad taste. If it weren’t for the good reviews I’ve read since its release and Ella’s role as the lead, I probably wouldn’t have watched it. The trailer and the pilot episode are at a very high level; from there, everything goes downhill fast. There are too many cringe moments, and most characters are portrayed as overly stupid. Maybe it can be attributed to British humor, but I don’t get the feeling that they intentionally wanted to add so much humor to so many scenes. To me, they simply execute and deliver it poorly. Officially, it’s a dramedy, but it has more drama and blood than anything else. The humor only detracts. The best thing, without a doubt, is the lead actress, Ella Purnell, one of the fastest-rising actresses in recent years, who continues to showcase incredible versatility. It’s watchable, but not a remarkable series, nor does it deserve a spot in any top-of-the-year lists. Rated 2.5 out of 5 stars 03/06/25 Full Review Gary K It didn't seem to know what it wanted to be. At first it seemed to be a comedy, but there was no humour, just dorky characters - who were then too unrealistic for a real world, gritty, tense thriller, which the graphic, horrific murders required. The first episode was one long misery fest - I got the point after ten minutes, the rest was just slow and tiresome. Her character was unlikable, the storyline predictable after the long-winded staging and I didn't last till the end of the series. Rated 2 out of 5 stars 02/25/25 Full Review Valerii Ege D Sweetpea is a highly enjoyable series reminiscent of Cindy Sherman’s 1997 film Office Killer. While the script and characters are intricately crafted, Ella Purnell’s performance elevates the show even further. A rising star. Rated 3.5 out of 5 stars 02/02/25 Full Review Read all reviews
