Prime Video's The Lord of the Rings: The Rings of Power brings to screens for the very first time the heroic legends of the fabled Second Age of Middle-earth's history. This epic drama is set thousands of years before the events of J.R.R. Tolkien's The Hobbit and The Lord of the Rings, and will take viewers back to an era in which great powers were forged, kingdoms rose to glory and fell to ruin, unlikely heroes were tested, hope hung by the finest of threads, and the greatest villain that ever flowed from Tolkien's pen threatened to cover all the world in darkness. Beginning in a time of relative peace, the series follows an ensemble cast of characters, both familiar and new, as they confront the long-feared re-emergence of evil to Middle-earth. From the darkest depths of the Misty Mountains, to the majestic forests of the elf-capital of Lindon, to the breathtaking island kingdom of Númenor, to the furthest reaches of the map, these kingdoms and characters will carve out legacies that live on long after they are gone.

Alan French Sunshine State Cineplex While there are moments when The Rings of Power loses some of its steam, the vital setup for the series’ future becomes a necessary evil. At the same time, plenty of moments appeal to the spectacle in Tolkien’s vision. Rated: 8/10 Aug 27, 2024 Full Review Gautam Sunder The Hindu Though having a little too much exposition, showrunners John D. Payne and Patrick McKay pull out all the stops in this new Tolkienian saga, armed with some spectacular visuals and arresting performances. Jul 18, 2024 Full Review Joonatan Itkonen Toisto.net There are the beginnings of a great show here. If only, like the heroes in the epic story it tells, the series can shoulder the burdens a little while longer. Rated: 4/5 Jul 8, 2024 Full Review Read all reviews

Rebecca C Absolutely wonderfully done. I've rewatched it so many times! Rated 5 out of 5 stars 06/12/25 Full Review Robert B This is just really bad. What are you doing amazon? Rated 0.5 out of 5 stars 06/03/25 Full Review Skywolf A Absolutely will never recommend it. The acting was absurd and the script was abysmal. Everything was forced and it seems that this kind of dilemma is brought upon by the forceful injection of political agenda into the already beautiful masterpiece of a story wrought by the Master himself. Terribly disappointing and i shall never watch further seasons. This disaster was enough for me to judge the entire project and future endeavors of this brand of mockery. Rated 0.5 out of 5 stars 05/29/25 Full Review Mark 0 Atmospheric and a good musical score . Even the opening credits are impressive . Although , weak screenplay , casting and unconvincing characters . Worse if you read the Triology + The Hobbit as a teenager . Apart from the Orcs , which doesnt require much character acting to wear make up , talk in a Cockney accent and use phrases like ; " lets eat some Elf flesh " If you have a high tech Cinema system at home or don't mind periods of dozzing off , While the dwarves drone on in unconvincing Scottish accents . Then go for it , or ' avoid like the plague ' or should I say . ' avoid like Mordor ' Rated 2 out of 5 stars 05/09/25 Full Review Tim B I so wanted this to be good. But it's not Tolkien's world; it's someone else's, some committee's, with Tolkien's names plastered on top and some of Jackson's team's aesthetics. Unsympathetic lead characters, clunky dialogue and dull storytelling don't make up for some stunning scenery. Stopped halfway through episode one, then a few weeks later tried again. Gritted my teeth through three episodes before giving up. I tried, I really did. Rated 0.5 out of 5 stars 05/09/25 Full Review Jim W This is the worst attempt at adapting Tolkien's work I have ever seen. It's as if the writers never actually read the material or even saw the Peter Jackson films. The attempt at diversity within the proto-Hobbits and the elves looks out of place and awkward. The casting and writing of the main characters are embarrassing. The basic plot being that elves are fading and mithril is somehow the key is ridiculous. Tolkien wrote so much stuff that it should be easy to adapt a screen play, even if they didn't purchase the rights to everything. I had such high hopes for this, but I should have been more prepared for Amazon's hand in this. I give a 1/2 star in hope season two will be better.
