1d agoSPOILER ALERT: The acting is good. The cinematography is good for TV. I even like the efforts they made for character development. I even like Galadriel's character. I was not a big fan of the musical scoring if I'm being honest. So the series started well and then sort of got worse and worse. I think the most annoying thing was how much it tried to copy the feel of the original LOTR movies almost over doing it. And then at the same time can't adhere so some of the most basic plot lines like that Sauron created the rings of power and gave them to the Elves. Nope Amazon has to rewrite the story which is now in conflict with the books and the LOTR movies. It is clear that the tolkien estate entrusted the writing to the wrong people. They obviously never read any of the source material. I'm not hard to please. But it reminds me of just how bad the very last star wars movies was. All the sudden the emporer is shooting lightening from his fingers and bring down all the star ships. Just so stupid. And sadly Rings of Power is almost as bad as that. It would have been so easy to write an original story since for the most part they had a blank slate. And still they have to out of there way to change the little bit we already knew about how the rings were forged. Its just dumbfounding how ridiculous this turned out. I could have written a much better version of this story in about two hours and you wouldn't have had to pay me anything to do better than this.

1d agoBefore I watched the series, I read about alleged review bombing going on regarding this series, and that this was the reason for the low viewer ratings. I decided to be completely objective in my viewing of The Rings of Power. I tried to watch it first with my wife (who is not American or caucasian). She lost complete interest in the series early on and made me turn it off. I just made another earnest attempt to watch it on my own, but literally hated almost every scene. In my mind those who are review bombing are more likely the ones giving it high ratings. With the exception of the cinematography, there is precious little to like about it by almost anyone, but especially by people who like myself have read all of Tolkien's works several times, and who are big fans of Peter Jackson's efforts with the LOTR and The Hobbit.

1d agoGreat plot, suspenseful with extraordinary graphics. Slightly unbelievable plot twist however
-
2d agoThank you "woke" media for ruining yet another franchise.
-
2d agoNo one who worked on this show read the books and it shows. It deviates so severely from the original writings. Nothing other the names are in alignment with the lore. This is a sham of a show and a disrespect to Tolkien's work. Do yourself a favor and watch the original trilogy, or better yet read the Books.
-
3d agoReally didn't like this.
-
3d agoOf all of the film adaptations of Tolkien's work to date, this one rings truest to his vision of middle earth, though it does take some liberties with the source material at times. This series, like the silmarillions themselves, was truly a creation of singular beauty.
-
3d agoit's hard to describe how terrible this show is it's cheesy, cheap, poorly written, poorly acted everything is terrible on this show there are no remnants of tolkien's magic here
-
4d agoThe visuals are amazing and the orcs were the best yet for any LOTR installment. Unfortunately the writing is absolutely abysmal and even a talented cast can't make up for the non-sensical deviation from Tolkien's carefully crafted logic-based world.
-
4d agoNot good, could've been worse. Sets and costumes were decent to great, if video-gamey. But...the weak script, limp acting, and absolutely forgettable soundtrack really drag this down. If it wasn't LoTR (sort of), I wouldn't have given it a chance.
