You can imagine The Regime was terribly fun to make. Put Winslet in a Perspex sedan! Hilarious! Fill the palace with potatoes! So droll! But if it hadn’t been for the plinky-plink Russian score, I’d have forgotten it was supposed to be a comedy.

I thought this show was fabulous. It's wacky, and it's *very* dark, so it won't be for everyone. But Kate Winslet is magnificent, and so is the rest of the cast. (Production value also very high -- cool use of color). If you like stuff on the weirder or darker side, ignore the critics and enjoy this!

For me, it was an interesting show with interesting characters. It's ok, slow and weird at times. Certainly not for everyone. It's not a hard star show, just as it's in no way a 5 star show. It's fine, most people probably won't even care to finish.

'The Regime' feels like a spiritual sequel to 'The Death of Stalin' in terms of subject matter and tone. I binged the entire series in one day before reading any reviews, and was shocked to see how poorly the show is rated on RT. This is one of those times where I sharply disagree with critic and audience reviews both. Stellar cast, direction, and writing. I can only chalk it up to people being struck sideways by the combination of dark humor with some unforgiving just-plain-dark elements that don't pull their punches. Plenty of wry chuckles to be had along with a couple gut-punches to remind you that, while the antics of the self-involved sociopaths headlining the show can be humorous, they are still horrible people doing horrible things that cannot be laughed at.
