Starring Damian Lewis, Mark Rylance and Claire Foy, this series is a six-part adaptation of Hilary Mantel's novels "Wolf Hall" and "Bring Up the Bodies." The historical drama follows the story of Thomas Cromwell through his rise in social hierarchy. From his humble beginnings as a blacksmith's son, Cromwell becomes King Henry VIII's chief minister. The episodes chronicle his life as he deals with the power struggles of the Tudor Court and a king who has difficulty producing a male heir.

Though set in the 16th century, the series’ bleak observations about elitism, integrity, and the consequences when flawed people wield absolute power feel remarkably timely. Go to Full Review

Season 2 is arguably greater than its acclaimed predecessor. Cromwell’s middle-aged regrets build poignantly, while brisker pacing and some levity lend the proceedings a teeming liveliness. Go to Full Review

Edward L 1d Rylance continues his dull one-dimensional performance as Cromwell and the producers adopt the nonsensical 'woke' casting that is currently popular, no doubt influenced by the ludicrous 2021 series with a black Anne Boleyn. One positive is that the directors decided to light the production so that the audience can see what is happening. Read the book, much more interesting. One positive about these two seasons is that it reminds us that although Henry was a monster as a man as a King he laid the foundations of the Reformation and saved Britain and the world from Roman Catholic domination. It was this freedom that enabled northern Europe to modernise whilst Catholic Europe remained in the dark ages. See more Linda N. @lindane Aug 30 If you like history, you won’t be disappointed. Good acting, the story is cohesive. See more Matheus F Aug 17 A love letter to Hilary Mantel. Peter Straughan and Mark Rylance deserve so many awards for this magnificent season 2. See more Stephen C @bob25009 Jun 4 6 dramatic episodes based on a true story!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! See more Elizabeth R Apr 29 This season felt rushed compared to the first season. Damien Lewis played Henry with more nuance, more dimensions in Season 1. In Season 2, Henry is just a jerk. See more Paul S Apr 28 Absolutely astounding! This show was incredible, and the performances from the cast made me feel like I was witnessing the actual events that were depicted in the show. All period pieces should use this show as a template because it was amazing in every way. I definitely recommend this for medieval and history fans! See more Read all reviews
