What would you do for love? For a brilliant male bookstore manager who crosses paths with an aspiring female writer, this question is put to the test. A charming yet awkward crush becomes something even more sinister when the writer becomes the manager's obsession. Using social media and the internet, he uses every tool at his disposal to become close to her, even going so far as to remove any obstacle -- including people -- that stands in his way of getting to her.

You's final season is sadly drawn-out and confounding. While Penn Badgley is still terrifyingly great at playing a menace, and he’s joined by a captivating Madeline Brewer this time around, the show struggles to stick its (predictable) landing.

If You Season 5 has a fatal flaw, it’s how muddled the show has allowed its satire to become. Joe’s kills have grown increasingly sloppy, but across the first three seasons, its sharp social satire never wavered.

I like that Joe ended up in jail AND that he got to spend some time with his son, but the rest was absolutely stupid. Joe knows how to evade suspicion but then gets taken down by Reddit detectives? Bronte was also probably the most annoying and most useless character in TV history ever.

Season 4 turned me off so I avoided Season 5 until now… binged it in 2 days. It was so good! Cheesy side characters added some much needed levity to the disturbing but important plot themes… Bronte’s plot twists, the commentary on internet sleuths solving cases faster than the police and overall Penn Badgley closed off the series noting that serial killers are a product of a sick society. Absolutely loved it and sad I waited this long to finish this series.

The season itself is fine, if bloated and messy and somewhat preposterous. Lots of *stuff* happens -- not because it makes sense, but because the plot has to move forward somehow. But the final episode is maybe the preachiest end to a series I've ever suffered through. What a terrible outro for an otherwise strong show.
