Born in the late 2000s, Ames McNamara made his acting debut in 2017 on an episode of "At Home with Amy Sedaris" (truTV 2017- ), appearing as an urchin boy in one of surreal comedy's episodes. Before that episode even aired, McNamara was already cast as Mark, the daughter of Darlene and David on the return of "Roseanne" (ABC 1988-1997, 2018- ). The casting made headlines due to the fact that McNamara's character was set to be non-gender-conforming, playing a 9-year-old boy who dressed in feminine clothing.
