Amy Nicholson is a documentary filmmaker based in New York City whose work unearths the beauty of ordinary life with a subtle sense of humor. One of her early films was "Muskrat Lovely" (2005), an intimate portrait of a remote Chesapeake Bay community. It premiered at the Hamptons International Film Festival and was broadcast on the Emmy award-winning television series "Independent Lens." She went on to produce and direct "Zipper: Coney Island's Last Wild Ride" (2012) which won a special jury prize at DOC NYC, and qualified for an Oscar after theatrical runs in New York and Los Angeles. Nicholson also directed the documentary short, "Pickle" (2016), an ode to man's capacity to love even the most unfortunate of animals. After winning numerous audience awards, "Pickle" was nominated for an IDA Award and Cinema Eye Honors, selected for New York Times' Op Docs and featured on the Criterion Channel. More recently, Nicholson completed her third feature documentary titled "Happy Campers" (2023). The film premiered at DOC NYC and garnered several jury mentions. Nicholson's films have been selected to screen at various national and international film festivals including Sheffield Doc Fest of the United Kingdom, Canada's Hot Docs, Germany's DOK Leipzig, BFI London, Arkansas's Hot Springs, and New York City's MoMA.
