Burt Metcalfe
Television writer, director, and producer Burt Metcalfe served two years in the United States Navy before he started his career in television. His time in the armed forces greatly informed his early acting roles on film and TV in a number of military themed dramas like "The Man Behind the Badge," "Whirlybirds," and "Steve Canyon." Through the 1950s and early '60s, Metcalfe pursued acting before switching from actor to casting director, working on the the western comedy series "Here Come The Brides" and the supernatural comedy series "Bewitched." In 1972, he started as an associate producer on the series "M*A*S*H," eventually working his way up to executive producer. He holds the distinction of being the only producer to stay for the series' entire 11-season run. He also served as writer and director on several " M*A*S*H " episodes, as well as on the spin-off "After M*A*S*H ." Metcalfe has received 13 Emmy nominations for his work on "M.A.S.H." and returned from retirement to executive produce the "M*A*S*H: 30th Anniversary Reunion" in 2002.
