Claude Goretta
Began his career collaborating on a short film, "Nice Time" (1957), with friend and compatriot Alain Tanner, directed documentaries and adapted plays for Swiss TV and made his feature directorial debut in 1970. Goretta's work is characterized by nonlinear narratives focusing on the humdrum details of everyday life. He is best known for "The Lacemaker" (1977), a harrowing depiction of a young woman's descent into madness.
