David Monahan did not originally set out to be an actor, but fell into it quite spontaneously. He had already graduated from Harvard with an honors degree in government, and was about to begin working on a law degree. He had never acted before, but was on campus when he was approached by a stranger who suggested he try out for the 1993 feature-film "Swing Kids." His audition was well received, but he didn't get the part. He was hardly deterred however, and gave up his law aspirations to pursue an acting career. He moved to New York and began acting lessons. He performed in theater and commercials before relocating to Los Angeles in 2000. The move proved to be a wise one. His first year there, he landed his big break with a recurring role, playing a gay ex-boyfriend, in seven episodes of the hit teen-drama "Dawson's Creek." From there, he landed roles in such shows as the crime series "NCIS:," "Cold Case," and "Crossing Jordan," where he had his second recurring role in 14 episodes from 2004-2007. His first major film role came in 2005, when he played another gay ex-boyfriend in "The Mostly Unfabulous Social Life of Ethan Green." His later film roles include the 2008 comedy "Say Goodnight," the 2009 thriller "Acts of Mercy," and in 2010, the crime-comedy "Miss Nobody." He has also appeared in recurring roles on "Swingtown," the comedy"Privileged," and the dark crime drama "Dexter."
