David Roberts

Actor David Roberts was well known in his native Australia for decades, but many Americans recognized him mostly from U.S. hits like "The Matrix Reloaded" (2003) and "Unbroken" (2014). Raised in the South Australian city of Adelaide, Roberts began acting on screen during the early '90s, appearing on popular Australian TV series like "The Flying Doctors" (Nine Network, 1986-1992), "All Together Now" (Nine Network, 1991-93), and the miniseries "Seven Deadly Sins" (ABC, 1993). Roberts' first big break came in 1993, when he was cast on the crime drama "Phoenix" (ABC, 1992-93). Next came a stint on the newsroom drama "Mercury" (ABC, 1996) alongside renowned actor Geoffrey Rush. Throughout all of this, Roberts cultivated a career on the stage as well, appearing with the Griffin, Belvoir, and Malthouse theater companies in Sydney. In 2003, Roberts became a famous face in America when he took on the role of Captain Roland in the sequel to "The Matrix" (1999), "The Matrix Reloaded" (2003). He would appear in the third installment of the franchise as well, "The Matrix Revolutions" (2003), before joining the cast of the popular family series "Holly's Heroes" (ABC, 2005). Several roles followed, including a critically acclaimed performance in the thriller "The Square" (2008), before Roberts joined the cast of the long running Australian drama "Home and Away" (7 Network, 1988- ) in 2009. In 2013, Roberts took on a starring role on the series "Please Like Me" (Pivot/Hulu, 2013-16).
