Treasure hunter Ben "Finn" Finnegan (Matthew McConaughey) has sunk his marriage to Tess (Kate Hudson) and his trusty boat in his obsessive quest to find the legendary Queen's Dowry. When he finds a vital clue that may finally pinpoint the treasure's whereabouts, he drags Tess and her boss, billionaire Nigel Honeycutt, along on the hunt. But Finn is not the only one interested in the gold; his former mentor-turned-enemy Moe Fitch (Ray Winstone) will stop at nothing to beat him to it.

Matthew McConaughey, whose continuing Hollywood career deserves a separate chapter in any future book by Richard Dawkins on the non-existence of God, is reunited for this romcom caper with Kate Hudson, herself uncompromisingly abysmal in everything.

Abysmal. It’s almost impressive how dull this thing is. If you get really drunk and watch it as an unintentional comedy, that’s probably the best you can hope for.

This movie was surprisingly good. I hate movies where the characters are stupid like the guy was but it wasn’t unbearable I guess. It was awesome to see that they got all the treasure and it didn’t get lost again from everyone grabbing it and throwing it around. It really makes me think about how much stuff truly in the ocean. New hobby..? 😭🤦🏻‍♀️

Fool's Gold is just a really bad movie—unfunny, unoriginal, and poorly executed from start to finish. The performances are cringe-worthy, with an Englishman fumbling a Southern accent and a Canadian mangling an English one. One clever diving action set piece at the end offers a brief spark, but it’s nowhere near enough to justify sitting through the rest.

I'm not sure why movie is so poorly reviewed. It's just a feel good "island" movie. Good music, good cast, decent story, and very nice scenery. It's a good rewatch too.

From the brilliant opening scene in which 2 scuba divers underwater are oblivious to their ship on fire above its a funny and smart comedy/treasure hunt adventure with Donald Sutherland, Matthew McConnaughey Kate Hudson & Kevin Hart.
