Dori Berinstein
Veteran Broadway producer Dori Berinstein has both put on and documented many notable theatrical productions throughout her career. Her best-known musicals include a pair of movie adaptations: the Tony-nominated "Big," based on the popular Tom Hanks body-swapping comedy, and a far more financially successful staging of the Reese Witherspoon vehicle "Legally Blonde." In addition to her work as a producer, in 1996 Berinstein co-founded Camp Broadway, a musical theater camp based in New York started with funds raised from her credit cards. Over the years, Berinstein has taken advantage of her connections to document some notable musicals. In 2007 she directed the documentary "Show Business: The Road To Broadway," which followed four musical productions' development and premieres in detail, including the long-running smash "Wicked." When the original run of "Legally Blonde" came to an end in 2008, Berinstein turned her attention full-time to filmmaking. That year's warm-hearted "Gotta Dance" followed a hip-hop dance troop made up of elderly New Jersey men and women. During the same 12 months, Berinstein also premiered "Some Assembly Required," which follows teams of children in a nationwide toy invention competition. Having grown close with musical actress Carol Channing over the years, Berinstein interviewed and filmed her friend on-stage for the 2012 documentary "Carol Channing; Larger Than Life."
