Certainly a prolific artist. What is much more incredible is his simple love of people, his generosity and the amazing love story between him and his wife - proposing without having even seen his future wife based on the same heartfelt intuition that drove his compositions. There are so many awards and no shortage of documentaries about artists and their accomplishments. This is a winner; an artist and a human being. A wonderful film by Dori Berinstein that I didn't want to end. From "The Way We Were" to the score of "Sophie's Choice", "A Chorus Line" and "Behind the Candelabre" nothing is better than having insight into the man himself. Hamlisch's life is presented as a fascinating unfolding with interviews from celebs, probes into his work, and quite especially tapes including Hamlisch himself. He's a delight. Narration is revealing and interesting--none of that "and then he wrote" tedium. I recommend it to all the theatre folks I come in contact with.
