Doug Jung

Producer and screenwriter Doug Jung earned a name for himself as a writer on the gritty crime series "Dark Blue" (TNT, 2009-2010), but for Jung, the path to success started much earlier. The New Jersey native was interested in directing films when he enrolled at the Tisch School of the Arts at New York University, but he soon discovered that the juggling act of directing didn't suit his temperament the way that writing did. After receiving some encouragement on his work, he focused his attention on becoming a writer for film and TV. After graduating, Jung entered show business at the bottom level, interning at "Saturday Night Live" (NBC, 1975-) before working as a personal assistant to director David Price on the film "Dr. Jekyll and Ms. Hyde" (1995). He moved on to become a production assistant at Amblin Entertainment, and eventually began picking up writing jobs for TV shows like "So Weird" (Disney Channel, 1999-2001). Jung's big break came in 2003, when his screenplay "Confidence" (2003) was picked up and turned into a major motion picture starring Rachel Weisz and Dustin Hoffman. From there, Jung was tapped to write two episodes of the smash hit series "Big Love" (HBO, 2006-2011). Then in 2009, Jung was approached by producer Jerry Bruckheimer, asking if he would be interested in collaborating on a police drama with writer Danny Cannon. Together, Jung and Cannon created the series "Dark Blue," which won considerable critical acclaim. In 2015, it was announced that Jung would be co-writing the third installment in the "Star Trek" (2009) franchise with acclaimed screenwriter, and co-star of the movie, Simon Pegg.
