Iman Shumpert was an American basketball player who starred in, along with his wife Teyana Taylor, the VH1 reality series "Teyana and Iman" (VH1, 2018- ). Born and raised in the Chicago suburb of Oak Park, Shumpert began playing basketball at a very young age. A gifted athlete, he quickly excelled in the sport, and by the time he entered high school in his native Oak Park, he was already garnering headlines as one of the most dominant high school players in the country. In 2008 he became a McDonald's All American, which basically insured he would receive numerous basketball scholarships to top colleges all across the country. Shumpert eventually settled on Georgia Tech, entering as a freshman during the 2008-09 season. He quickly became one of the Yellow Jackets' leading scorers, and consistently put up solid numbers throughout his entire career at the university. Shumpert was good enough at Georgia tech to forgo his senior year and enter the NBA draft a year early in 2011. He was selected by the New York Knicks as the 17th overall pick that year, and made his debut with the team that fall. Shumpert had a breakout year with the Knicks, and despite a late season knee injury, placed 5th in the 2012 NBA Rookie of the Year voting. Shumpert played two and a half more seasons with the Knicks, before being traded to the Cleveland Cavaliers in January of 2015. Over the course of the next three seasons Shumpert and the Cavaliers would face off against the Golden State Warriors in three consecutive NBA Finals, in 2015, 2016 and 2017, and would take home the championship trophy in 2016. It was Shumpert's first time being a member of a championship team in the NBA. In addition to his NBA career, Shumpert also dabbled in music. He released a hip-hop song in 2012 called "Knicks Anthem," as well as a popular single in 2014 called "Chiraq." With his NBA and music career already in full swing, Shumpert and his wife, the singer Teyana Taylor, branched out into television in early 2018 with the premiere of their reality show "Teyana and Iman." The series followed the intimate lives of the young couple and their toddler Junie. "Teyana and Iman" premiered on VH1 in February of 2018.
