Following his initial breakout on the police procedural series "Detroit 1-8-7" (ABC 2010-11), Jon Michael Hill established himself as an adroit stage performer, a reliable feature film supporting player, and the kind of small screen actor who could add more than his share to any show's ensemble. On comedy programs like "Eastbound and Down" (HBO 2009-2013) and dramatic mystery series like "Elementary" (CBS 2012-), Hill proved himself an invaluable character actor. Jon Michael Hill was born on July 28, 1985 in Waukegan, Illinois. Following his first interest in acting at a Northwestern University summer drama program, Hill enrolled at the University of Illinois at Urbana-Champaign, acting in numerous theatrical productions. After college, Hill took to the stage professionally, first in Chicago-performing in such productions as "The Tempest" at the Steppenwolf Theatre Company in 2009-and then in New York City. Hill's first big part in a Broadway play came with the comedy "Superior Donuts," for which he was nominated for a Tony Award for Best Featured Actor in 2010. That same year, Hill made the move to television, in the ensemble of the new crime procedural series "Detroit 1-8-7" (ABC 2010-11). Hill played rookie officer and family man Det. Damon Washington, who endures a rocky start upon joining the department. Although Hill's debut series did not last more than a season, he used it as a launch pad to other work on and beyond network television. After the cancelation of "Detroit 1-8-7," Hill appeared in the romance "Falling Overnight" (2011) and on such programs as "Law & Order: Special Victims Unit" (NBC 1999-) and "Person of Interest" (CBS 2011-). Hill's next major role offered the first taste of his comic chops, as Darnell on the third season of the comedy series "Eastbound and Down" (HBO 2009-2013). Soon after, Hill returned to his crime-fighting roots to play Det. Marcus Bell on the popular Sherlock Holmes reimagining "Elementary" (CBS 2012-).
