American politician and radio host Larry Elder was born Lawrence Allen Elder on April 27, 1952. Born and raised in South Central Los Angeles, Elder excelled in school earning a Bachelor's degree from Brown University in 1974 and his Juris Doctorate from the University of Michigan Law School in 1977. He originally worked as a lawyer in Cleveland but in 1988, he began co-hosting the local television talk show, "Fabric" (PBS WVIZ, 1988- ). Elder returned to Los Angeles and became a fixture in the talk radio scene with "The Larry Elder Show" (KABC-AM, 1994-2008). He earned a Los Angeles-area Emmy Award in 2000 for his special news report "Making Waves - LAUSD" ( KCAL-TV, 2000). Following Michael Moore's "Bowling for Columbine" (2002) Elder produced a rebuttal film "Michael & Me" (2004). As a columnist with Creators Syndicate, he published frequent newspaper columns detailing his libertarian views. In 2021, he was defeated in the California gubernatorial recall election by Gavin Newsom. He declared his candidacy in the 2024 US Presidential election in April 2023 but dropped out in October after failing to qualify for the first Republican primary debate.
