Lewis Charles was a prolific actor who created a name for himself largely on the big screen. In his early acting career, Charles appeared in such films as the Richard Widmark drama "Panic in the Streets" (1950), the Cary Grant mystery adaptation "To Catch a Thief" (1955) and the Anna Magnani dramatic adaptation "The Rose Tattoo" (1955). He also appeared in "Bigger Than Life" (1956), "Monkey on My Back" (1957) and the drama "Sweet Smell of Success" (1957) with Burt Lancaster. He kept working in film throughout the sixties, starring in the comedy "The Three Stooges Meet Hercules" (1962) with Moe Howard, the comedy adaptation "Who's Got the Action?" (1962) with Dean Martin and "Birdman of Alcatraz" (1962) with Burt Lancaster. He also appeared in the Jackie Gleason dramatic adaptation "Soldier in the Rain" (1963). He held additional roles in television including a part on "Kolchak: The Night Stalker" (ABC, 1974-75). He also was featured in the TV movies "I Love a Mystery" (1972-73), "Queen of the Stardust Ballroom" (CBS, 1974-75) and "Cage Without a Key" (CBS, 1974-75). Charles more recently appeared in "The Gift" (CBS, 1979-1980).
