Myrtle Gonzalez
Born in Los Angeles on September 28, 1891, Myrtle Gonzales was one of the very first female stars of the silver screen. Working with pioneering film studios like the Selig Polyscope Company and Vitagraph Studios, Gonzales starred in dozens of silent-era motion pictures. Her role in the 1910 short film "In Old California" marked a significant milestone, as it became one of the earliest Western movies ever made and the first movie of any kind shot in Hollywood, California. Despite the limitations of early filmmaking, Gonzales captivated audiences with both comedy and drama paving the way for future generations of actresses. She died on October 22, 1918 at the age 27, a victim of the global Spanish Flu pandemic.
