Norberto Barba

Norberto Barba is a television director specializing in crime drama procedurals, most substantially with NBC's "Law & Order: Criminal Intent." A Bronx native, Barba eventually made his way to USC's film school. His first effort was the dramatic short "Chavez Ravine," a father-son story homage to the residents who attempted to fight off the encroaching developers of Dodger Stadium. The short starred Jaime Gomez, who would go on to appear in Barba's feature film "Solo," a Latin America-based action thriller from 1996, starring Mario Van Peebles and Barry Corbin; the film doubled its budget at the box office. That same year, Barba directed the space-race TV movie "Apollo 11" and four episodes of the crime drama "New York Undercover"--thus a police procedural director was born. On the way to greater responsibility and control, in 2000, Barba directed three episodes of the Showtime family/boxing drama, "Resurrection Blvd.," earning Barba the first of three ALMA Award nominations for Outstanding Director. In early 2005, Barba directed three episodes of the CBS procedural franchise "CSI: Miami," and later that year, he began directing "Law & Order: Criminal Intent," the 2nd spin-off from the "Law & Order" mega-series. From 2006 through 2008, Barba added executive producer responsibilities. At the end of the decade, Barba became an especially hot quantity, working on episodes of the procedurals "CSI: NY," "The Mentalist," and "NCIS: Los Angeles"--all in 2010. In 2011, Barba returned to boxing via the FX drama "Lights Out."
