      Richard Hageman made quite a career for himself as an Academy Award-winning musician. He followed this honor with songs in the action picture "Rulers of the Sea" (1939) with Douglas Fairbanks Jr., the Cary Grant historical drama "The Howards of Virginia" (1940) and the drama "The Long Voyage Home" (1940) with John Wayne. Hageman won an Academy Award for "If I Were King" in 1938. Hageman won a Music (Scoring) Academy Award for "Stagecoach" in 1939. Hageman was nominated for a Music (Music Score of a Dramatic Picture) Academy Award for "This Woman Is Mine" in 1941 as well as for a Music (Music Score of a Dramatic or Comedy Picture) Academy Award for "The Shanghai Gesture" in 1942. His film career continued throughout the forties in productions like "The Bachelor's Daughters" (1946), "Fun on a Weekend" (1947) and "New Orleans" (1947). Hageman also created music for the John Wayne romance "Angel and the Badman" (1947). In the latter part of his career, he tackled roles in "Grounds For Marriage" (1950), the Kathryn Grayson musical "The Toast of New Orleans" (1950) and the Mario Lanza biopic "The Great Caruso" (1951). Hageman was most recently credited in the comedy adventure "Larger Than Life" (1996) with Bill Murray. Hageman also contributed music to "She Wore a Yellow Ribbon" (1949) and "Wagonmaster" (1950) with Ben Johnson. Hageman passed away in March 1966 at the age of 84.
