Steve Welch

Editors are among cinema's least sung heroes, but since the mid '90s, Emmy Award-winner Steve Welch has been piecing together some of its biggest and best comedies. Having sharpened his nails on the innovative HBO sketch comedy series "Mr. Show," Welch found longtime creative partners in hosts Bob Odenkirk and David Cross. He served as editor on all 30 episodes of the Emmy-nominated program, and edited Cross's standup special, "The Pride is Back," following its dissolution. In 2000, Welch lent his technical expertise to the 72nd Academy Awards, though it was the edgy family sitcom "Malcolm in the Middle" that proved his greatest success. Over five years, he edited 20 episodes, receiving his Emmy for Outstanding Single Camera Picture Editing for a Comedy Series in 2003. Welch was encouraged to spread his creative wings on the show, and he tried his hand at directing several episodes during the latter seasons. Welch is an established go-to guy for comedy, so it's no surprise that feature films came knocking. Welch edited the spoofs "Not Another Teen Movie" and "Walk Hard: The Dewey Cox Story." In 2009, he teamed with legendary comedy director Harold Ramis for the biblical farce "Year One."
