Born on July 12, 1973 in Chicago, IL, Durrett attended Alcorn State University, where he enjoyed popularity on campus as a star of the basketball team. After making his film debut in "Deep Passion" (1999), Durrett enjoyed a supporting role in the kids sports fantasy film "Like Mike" (2002) before appearing in a number of television shows, including "Girlfriends" (UPN/The CW, 2000-08), "CSI: Miami" (CBS, 2002-2012), "The Young and the Restless" (CBS, 1973-), "Vanished" (FOX, 2006), "Heroes" (NBC, 2006-2010), "Samantha Who?" Durrett took a break from TV to appear in such films as "Choker" (2005), "Lords of the Underworld" (2007), "Stiletto" (2008), and "A Hero's Unsung Dignity" (2009). Before long, however, he was back on the small screen with parts in such programs as "Melrose Place" (The CW, 2009-2010), "Ghost Whisperer" (CBS, 2005-2010), "Single Ladies" (VH1, 2011-15/Centric, 2015-), "Castle" (ABC, 2009-2016), "Are You There, Chelsea?" (NBC, 2012), and "Zoe Ever After" (BET, 2016-). During this time, Durrett also appeared in a number of films, including "72 Hours" (2015), "Zodiac Sign" (2015), "The Fix" (2015), and "Barbershop: The Next Cut" (2016). Durrett finally landed his big break when he was cast as Davis West in the rural family drama "Queen Sugar" (OWN, 2016-), which was co-created by Oprah Winfrey and Ava DuVernay.
