Vincent Rodriguez III

Actor Vincent Rodriguez III's career as a dancer, singer and actor in national touring productions of various musicals led to his casting as the male lead on the offbeat comedy-musical series "Crazy Ex-Girlfriend" (The CW, 2015- ). Born in San Francisco, California, Rodriguez and his three older sisters were raised in nearby Daly City by parents of Filipino, Chinese and Spanish extractions. His sisters were involved in theater and music, but Rodriguez initially pursued an interest in sports and martial arts before following in his siblings' footsteps by joining the high school drama department. After a year at junior college, Rodriguez decided to fully invest in his pursuit of an acting career; he enrolled at the Pacific Conservatory of Performing Arts (PCPA) and trained in acting, voice and dance. Upon completing his studies, he was cast as a member of the ensemble and later, first understudy, in the national tour of "42nd Street." More stage work, both as an ensemble and featured player, in productions of "Xanadu" and "White Christmas," among many other shows, soon followed, as well as his first screen role in an episode of the CBS suspense-drama "Hostages" (2014). Rodriguez returned to Los Angeles to teach at PCPA, but was soon cast in the 2014 Off-Broadway run of "Here Lies Love," a rock-disco musical by David Byrne and Fatboy Slim about the life of notorious Filipino First Lady Imelda Marcos. While appearing in the show, he was discovered by director Marc Webb ("The Amazing Spider-Man"), who invited him to audition for "Crazy Ex-Girlfriend," a new sitcom series he was co-producing with actress/writer Rachel Bloom. Rodriguez was cast as Josh Chan, who briefly romanced Bloom's lovestruck heroine while the pair attended summer camp, and who now finds himself the object of her romantic obsession.
