Most remembered for being part of Prince's band The Revolution, and as one half of the funk outfit Wendy & Lisa, Wendy Melvoin was born in Los Angeles in 1964 and was the daughter of jazz pianist Mike Melvoin. She joined up with Prince at a young age and worked with him during one of the most creatively fruitful parts of his career; she shared a Grammy with him for their work together on the seminal 1980s album "Purple Rain." Since then Melvoin had a long career scoring films and hit television shows, collaborating with her professional and one-time romantic partner Lisa Coleman. The duo picked up several awards and gained respect across the industry for their prolific body of work. Perhaps her most notable work was arranging the music for the superhero series "Heroes" for its four seasons, although she is also known for producing the music with Coleman for the teacher drama " Dangerous Minds," as Wendy & Lisa. In 2010, Melvoin and Coleman shared the Emmy for Outstanding Original Main Title Theme Music for the medical drama "Nurse Jackie."
